Things you really don't care for in fan-fiction

Or to discuss one. Consider all the Pluto's from horrible but survivable futures coming together to discuss the paradox that they traced back to this moment where they come together to compare events and decide if any of their futures are worth living with.

Someone already complained about people tossing Random japanese into a story. Now while I don't entirely mind that I'm seriously having pain from reading something where someone attempted to do that without even making any attempt to look up how to spell anything japanese in Romanji and is just writing things as close as they can guess with American English phonics conventions.

Its really bad on the japanese attempts added in.

Adding honorifics or the occasional "hai" or "sensei" isn't a big deal. But when they have to have footnotes every five lines? Yeah that's hideous.

Or how about when they use attempts at actual Chinese, but don't translate it?

Or they use the wrong words for the Chinese words, making Shampoo fight with lanterns instead of maces.

I don't really care for fics that have Cologne being made an evil jerk. Sure, she has her own agenda and is a bit cruel, but she can be helpful and wants to watch the fun more than drag Ranma back to China.

I hope you didn't have to put up with a fic where Shampoo attacked with her Chewy. Yes Chewy like the nickname for Chewbaca. Or Iya for any time someone is saying No in the entire fic. Where do you put a V in domo. Those three things could get you an accurate search result so I won't complain more about a fic I hope no one else reads but those are the less painful attempts at adding non-english into it.

Multiple chapters and got most of the characters personalities right just painful to read because of that crap. The dates written on the chapters appear to have spaced the release across 3 years. So if that was to troll... And the abuse of language actually seems to get worse in the more recent chapters. Like as if they forgot the few times they used Japanese or Chinese correctly before and decided all of a sudden that Gomen needs a u before the o.

This is how I dealt with this mistranslation. And yes, Ranma is using Ranko for legal reasons.

I don't really care for making certain characters into complete monsters...

One thing that annoys me is when shipping fics try to play up a favored character with things that aren't true. Like how it's always been just *so* obvious that good ol' ucchan is female even when crossdressing as a boy. Ranma only figured it out when he ripped open her shirt and got two tits per tat.

This kind of thing often goes hand in hand with the "akane is an evil bitch who mallets people for fun/no reason whatsoever"/"Akane is sleeping with tons of guys/Ryoga/Tatewaki behind ranma's back!!!11!1" nonsense.

Yep, the Akane mistreatment is the second most annoying fanfiction cliche I've ever seen. For me, at least.

Yes, she has faults and such, but she isn't an obviously evil monster.

She's not my favorite character, or second or even 3rd, but I respect her enough to keep her as close to canon as I am able.

I figured her to be the normal girl in the whole mess with the martial arts skillet of the best fighters of normal earth to show how insane the world she lives in is.

Only when Akane is pissed that she obviously breaks the laws of physics.

Though the majority of fics, especially in the past few years, have Akane way better than she is, because after all "zomg ranma and akane are soulmates 4ever zomg"

Focusing on the negative traits of a character to the exclusion of everything else. Fics where said characters are 'bashed' come to mind.
