Usagi's parents (and Senshi's parents in general)

Well, I see it as mostly the anime universe with many chaotic deviations.

It's these factors that define it as anime-derived:
- Power levels
- Enemies fighting style and usage of Youma
- Character personalities

The death of Rei's mother and her estrangement from her father are manga and PGSM. Her parents don't get mentioned at all in the anime.

Adding some details from the manga is fine for me, especially if it's for plugging up holes. But still, the less, the better. SM manga and anime in mix well like oil and water.

Pluto: could be fun to have her parents be time travellers or immortals themselves...Having her meet her parents before she is even born could be quite amusing.

It would be interesting to have The Doctor be Pluto's father, since we know he has had kids.

I've seen quite a few SM crossovers that invoked Doctor Who on some level, most of which had her hating the Doctor for constantly messing things up. I like the idea of a story where the two meet and Setsuna starts going, "Da~ad. When will you stop making messes and expecting me to clean them up?!" Turning to his companion, "He's always running around the universe with a girl 1/20th his age, and he never sticks around to clean up. He just rushes off to make the next big mess that he will leave for me to clean up, again."

Considering her age wouldn't her Dad's age make 1/20 be a case of him going around time with Cologne as his companion by now?

Oh, he finally settles down at around 1200 years old. This is back in his wild and crazy time travelling days, though he hits 1/50th his age well before he is ready to settle down.

It is hard to nail down when the time lord's ceased to be a part of living universe, with only individual travellers going further forward in time, but it appears to have happened before the 40th century. Since the original Doctor was travelling in a Mark 1 TARDIS, he is probably from rather early in the timeline of the Time Lords, though he appears to have originated well after they started considering themselves masters of time. This gets really complicated when you get into all of the inconsistencies that crop up due to the sheer number of writers who have been involved with the show and all of the many re-imaginings that have occurred over the years as our perception of reality and culture have changed.

I think it'd be smart to not try to figure out either Setsuna or the Doctor's ages...The questions that arise from either are too mind breaking. It's like solving pi or removing one from infinity. Nothing good can come of it.

Anyway... I'm going to drop in here with my own question.

Any background info on Rei's grandfather? His past maybe? I don't really care from which continuity really, so long as it gives me something to extrapolate from. The guy's been around so long, he's bound to have done things other than run around waving sticks at evil spirits all his life.

I've got some parts coming up with him in my story that will require me to either pull a rabbit out of my hat, or build a character profile based on a minimal history.

Without knowing his age, guessing at him being seventy or so... He'd be prime Soldiering age during WWII. Which could either make him a veteran, or someone who spent a lot of time doing funerals when he was younger if he was a Preist even then. And potentially witnessed the horrors of war (Firebombings of Tokyo for example) first hand.

I really would love to know, because even a tiny amount of information to point what his past might be would be useful.

For a guy who's been a not-so-stately home to one of the Seven Great Youma (Jiji), the past is wide open. I can see him butting heads with Happosai - they both appreciate the pretty girls, but Rei's grandfather is a lot more decent about it.

Looks like I'll have to build.

Foremost on my mind, is the location.

The Temple is smack dab in the middle of downtown Tokyo. Some of the most EXPENSIVE real estate on the planet.

Said temple occupies approximately 3 acres in an area where an office condo rents out for astronomical prices. (Some places in excess of one million USD annually.)

The Hinos are effectively the sole occupants of this building.

That tells me that they are either loaded, or it exists in a kind of Historical/Landmark status with Grampa exclusively allowed to be caretaker.

That suggests the Shrine has been in the family for generations.

Given Rei's father's position, as a politician... It's likely the entire family has a lot more importance. Grampa has likely at some point, mingled with some powerful political people in his earlier days. With the proximity of the shrine to the likes of the State Guest House and the Imperial Palace, I wouldn't be surprised if the Hino's have the ability to pull back door favors on the political spectrum.

Another interesting thing, is that Rei's father may care more than he lets on, or is trying to make up for it in his own way. I mean, Rei gets to live on probably the single biggest piece of private residential property (In a sense) in Tokyo, and goes to an all girls (I forget if its a private) school.

So while Rei's father may have alienated her because of his career, I think that he might actually care enough to ensure that she gets a decent place to live.

It also closely resembles a couple of the shrines that have properties adjoining parks between Tokyo Tower and Shinjuku. I'd give links but I'm not having much luck with the google maps link to view function at the moment.
