Giving Ranma a "Musk-style" bride...

I wasn't really sure whether this belonged here, in Ideas, in Fic Research or even in Polls, but I finally decided it was generic enough to give here. As any fan on the manga knows, in ancient times the Musk bred for strength by cursing animals into women and then breeding with them. With this fact in mind, my mind started to wander: Ranma has been paired up with many, many different women in fanfics, from Akane Tendo to Kodachi Kuno to the Sailor Senshi to Washuu from Tenchi Muyo, so why not try something a little more... unique?

If Ranma were to gain a Musk-style bride, an animal (female by default, for preference) with a Nyanniichuan curse (unlocked for greater possibilities), what animal do you personally think would make the best match for him? And would your answer differ depending on which of the three 'categories' (see below) you wanted it to fill?

-Personality matching (aka compatability of personalities)
-Genetics (aka what they have to offer to the bloodline)
-Humor (aka what is most likely to produce comedic situations/events)

Interesting question. The normal convention is to make Ranma the bride. Not give Ranma one.

There's also the other idea of using a female of the Musk. Though canon-wise there are just those three "males".

Many of the issues of an animal with the Nyanniichuan curse is having her become human in mentality. Having the curse unlocked would not help things.

That will be one of the main challenges for Ranma to deal with.

Which I suppose could be part of Ranma's motivation (not romantic but motivation simply to help the girl). Raises alot of ethical questions, to say the least.

I'm not sure whether the difference is all that great, considering animals like Sanae (Satsuki's monkey), Shirokuro (Ryouga's dog), Shussemaru the sacred horse and humans like Kunou and Happosai.

Given the Region and Ranma's biggest phobia I see the best personality match and humor potential with a cursed Tiger. But not having a locked curse how would she stay human long enough to even care to try learning any language? All cats are rather aloof but just imagine what kind of mess you'd have with an either Siberian or Bengal tiger able to show up any time there's sufficient hot water? Could that be a motivation to get Ranma-chan to give up switching back? After all No hot water no big kitty?

The idea kind of reminds me of a story by KonokoHasano here, Sailor Mau. Where Ranma gets a pet kitten that falls into the spring with him given it the body of a little girl. Of course in this universe the animal already had the advantage of Ranma being able to speak to cats before the spring, thus boost it's intelgence in human matters.

Still it is a pretty valid problem, especialy if the animal is not locked. Would it develop enough to function as a human? Canon wise we really don't know to much about the Musk, for all we really know they could use the transformed animals as breeding stock, and never bother really training them to be human.

As for the animal of choice, I have to agree a feline of some kind is one the only real choices beyond something mystical like a dragon, phoniex etc. Cats give Ranma a good way to get over his phobia and their genetic would add an inate sense of grace, power and flexability to the children.

While a lot of other animals like birds would seem to be like a good idea, the only way for them to be able to fly is more then likely to cause them to not have hands. Some how I don't think Ranma be to happy if his children didn't have proper hands and feet, he be unable to pass on his martial arts as effectively.

Who's to say the offspring of bird and human from the springs has to have feathered arms? Nothing says the Phoenix weren't distantly related to the Musk after all. Just because their mutations are enhanced by the village spring high in the mountains doesn't mean it's the only source.
