"Maybe I went to the wrong high school..." Suzumiya Haruhi, Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu episode 2.
Flashback: 5 months earlier
The sole secretary in the office stared blankly at the girl standing in front of her, checking out the panthlets describing the pros (and concealing the cons as much as they legally could) of the various High Schools in the area. Everyone knew her, under one appelation or another: "Suzumiya Haruhi, Class 3-D", was the polite one. "That nutcase who drew chalk symbols on the field" was another notable one, and "that wierdo Suzumiya" was the most popular. The rest of her class had already left for lunch after having left their name and the schools they wanted to join next year for she and her colleagues to register them, and the secretary would have left as well, had Suzumiya not been picking up panthlets seemingly randomly for the past half hour.
She sighed, eying the empty desks in the office behind her. She'd been wondering why her colleagues had all suddenly departed at the furst bell of third period for one reason or another; obviously they had been informed that Class 3-D would be picking their High Schools today. Probably during yesterday's meeting, which she had missed because her son had had a bad case of diarrhea.
*sigh*
She turned back toward Suzumiya. The girl, whom the secretary had to admit certainly had good looks (pity she was too wierd for anyone to be really interested, a boyfriend might do her some good, the secretary reflected), was now holding two panthlets and comparing them with a cross look and an ever-present frown on her face. The secretary recognized one of those two as being one where one of her colleagues worked, whereas the other... nope, never heard of it before.
She then winced as Suzumiya seemed to finally notice her. Turning toward her, the girl slammed the two panthlets on her desk.
"Those two seem like the most interesting ones," she said. "Which one's the best?"
The secretary blinked, and for a reason. For a girl as strange as Suzumiya, 'best' was very much a relative word. The 'best' school for a hooligan is a secure, disciplinary one. The 'best' school for an artist is an artistically driven one. The 'best' school for a genius is a high-level one.
The 'best' school for Suzumiya Haruhi was, in her opinion, a school with white padded walls.
So, instead of considering which would be best for her, the secretary looked down at the two panthlets with another critera in mind. Her friend had certainly been insensitive with her plight the last time she had complained about the trouble students in her school, maybe sending Suzumiya to her might be the right thing to humble her?
Yes, that would be it. She opened her mouth to reply--
"How DARE you send that to us! I never want to speak with you, ever again in my life!"
Then swiftly changed her mind and pointed at the other.
"This one. No doubt about it." even though she had never heard about it before.
Suzumiya made a pensive noise, picked up the panthlet and gave it another quick scan, before shrugging dismissively and handing it back to her.
"Fine, put me in that one."
And she mercifully left. The secretary silently thanked the gods and quickly wrote the name of the school down next to Suzumiya Haruhi's name. Then, she closed the binder, giving a silent prayer of mercy to the poor people who would have to handle her.
No doubt Furinkan High School has never seen anything like her before...

Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu / Ranma Nibunnoichi Crossover
---------------------------------
Akuma-sama's note: the possibility I have in mind needs to have Ranma in Furinkan at the same time as Haruhi starts school. Hence, Haruhi is a first year while Ranma and Akane are second years. Why? Because...
-----
[The First Year's ceremony happened during the habitual morning 'festivities' (all organized by the Vice Principal to lower the number of urgent transfers as much as possible), so Haruhi hasn't seen any wierdness yet]
[In class, during a pause]
"Ah, you're first years, right?"
Haruhi gave a glance at the upperclasman adressing the class from next to the teacher's desk. He was nothing much to look at; brown hair, brown eyes and forgettable face with nothing that stood out, like the rest of the students here, from what she'd seen so far. She gave a disdainful sniff and turned back to looking out the window, staring at what appeared to be a duck flying in the sky.
"Let me give you some advice," he continued after he got half the class' attention on him. "First, if you see something wierd around here, just shrug and ignore it, it's probably got nothing to do with you."
Interest piqued, Haruhi turned back to look at him.
"Second, if you hear someone yelling 'Ranma, prepare to die', get away from Ranma as quickly as you can; no one got hurt yet, but it's better not to chance it."
Ranma? Who was that?
"Third---"
"SAOTOME! HOW DARE YOU MISTREAT SHAMPOO!"
Haruhi whirled around so fast her hair nearly ran up her nose to stare at the source of the scream. A man in white robes and thick glasses was standing outside, launching a vicious attack of daggers and throwing stars at 'Saotome'; they made a staccato series of thunks as they flawlessly hit their target.
...strange, how could a tree mistreat a bottle of hair care product? Was he a loony?
"I'm over here, Blindy!" came another voice. Haruhi looked...
...and gasped.
Then she smiled.
The boy, obviously 'Saotome', was wearing a pair of black pants and a bright red chinese shirt, in a school full of teal and white uniforms. He had his hair long and tied in a stiff pigtail, unlike the rest of the boys who almost uniformly had theirs cropped short. It was obvious, looking at him, that he had no regard for the school rules or fitting into the student body.
It was also obvious, from the way he was standing easily on a branch, that had had no regard for the laws of physics, either.
He was a strange person.
He was a wierd person.
Her smile became a grin.
He was an interesting person. FINALLY.

Notes Resumed: In a very 'her' way, Haruhi pulls Ranma away from everyone else, despite warnings from his classmates and Akane's complaints. She extorts a date out of him, in plain sight of Akane, Ukyo and Nabiki ("I just -have- to see this..."). After being told he has four fiancées and counting, Haruhi only gets more excited: He's even more interesting than she'd tought!
And when his curse is revealed, as a last-resort way to change her mind, she just grins...
-----------------------------
"Shapeshifter? Tanuki? Kitsune?"
"Um... magical curse."
"Even better!"
-----------------------------
...right.
And the greatest beauty of this is that... whoops, apparently this site doesn't have Spoiler tags, so...
...well, anyone who knows about the yet-unrevealed informations of Haruhi can easily guess what goes on with Mikuru, Yuki and Itsuki, and why they'd be in the story too... Plus, there's Haruhi's own particularity to consider...
...and for those who are completely lost, look at the Haruhi thread in Forums.Animesuki.com
And for those who haven't seen Haruhi yet, GO SEE IT. Subs are out, 4 episodes.
