Ranma½ / Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu Crossover...

Postby Akuma-sama » Tue Apr 25, 2006 8:19 pm

This started as an inspirational bang, and grew so big I decided to pull it out of the Uncommon Crossover thread and give it its own topic:
==============================================
"Maybe I went to the wrong high school..." Suzumiya Haruhi, Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu episode 2.
Flashback: 5 months earlier
The sole secretary in the office stared blankly at the girl standing in front of her, checking out the panthlets describing the pros (and concealing the cons as much as they legally could) of the various High Schools in the area. Everyone knew her, under one appelation or another: "Suzumiya Haruhi, Class 3-D", was the polite one. "That nutcase who drew chalk symbols on the field" was another notable one, and "that wierdo Suzumiya" was the most popular. The rest of her class had already left for lunch after having left their name and the schools they wanted to join next year for she and her colleagues to register them, and the secretary would have left as well, had Suzumiya not been picking up panthlets seemingly randomly for the past half hour.
She sighed, eying the empty desks in the office behind her. She'd been wondering why her colleagues had all suddenly departed at the furst bell of third period for one reason or another; obviously they had been informed that Class 3-D would be picking their High Schools today. Probably during yesterday's meeting, which she had missed because her son had had a bad case of diarrhea.
*sigh*
She turned back toward Suzumiya. The girl, whom the secretary had to admit certainly had good looks (pity she was too wierd for anyone to be really interested, a boyfriend might do her some good, the secretary reflected), was now holding two panthlets and comparing them with a cross look and an ever-present frown on her face. The secretary recognized one of those two as being one where one of her colleagues worked, whereas the other... nope, never heard of it before.
She then winced as Suzumiya seemed to finally notice her. Turning toward her, the girl slammed the two panthlets on her desk.
"Those two seem like the most interesting ones," she said. "Which one's the best?"
The secretary blinked, and for a reason. For a girl as strange as Suzumiya, 'best' was very much a relative word. The 'best' school for a hooligan is a secure, disciplinary one. The 'best' school for an artist is an artistically driven one. The 'best' school for a genius is a high-level one.
The 'best' school for Suzumiya Haruhi was, in her opinion, a school with white padded walls.
So, instead of considering which would be best for her, the secretary looked down at the two panthlets with another critera in mind. Her friend had certainly been insensitive with her plight the last time she had complained about the trouble students in her school, maybe sending Suzumiya to her might be the right thing to humble her?
Yes, that would be it. She opened her mouth to reply--
"How DARE you send that to us! I never want to speak with you, ever again in my life!"
Then swiftly changed her mind and pointed at the other.
"This one. No doubt about it." even though she had never heard about it before.
Suzumiya made a pensive noise, picked up the panthlet and gave it another quick scan, before shrugging dismissively and handing it back to her.
"Fine, put me in that one."
And she mercifully left. The secretary silently thanked the gods and quickly wrote the name of the school down next to Suzumiya Haruhi's name. Then, she closed the binder, giving a silent prayer of mercy to the poor people who would have to handle her.
No doubt Furinkan High School has never seen anything like her before...
---------------------------------
Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu / Ranma Nibunnoichi Crossover
---------------------------------
Akuma-sama's note: the possibility I have in mind needs to have Ranma in Furinkan at the same time as Haruhi starts school. Hence, Haruhi is a first year while Ranma and Akane are second years. Why? Because...
-----
[The First Year's ceremony happened during the habitual morning 'festivities' (all organized by the Vice Principal to lower the number of urgent transfers as much as possible), so Haruhi hasn't seen any wierdness yet]
[In class, during a pause]
"Ah, you're first years, right?"
Haruhi gave a glance at the upperclasman adressing the class from next to the teacher's desk. He was nothing much to look at; brown hair, brown eyes and forgettable face with nothing that stood out, like the rest of the students here, from what she'd seen so far. She gave a disdainful sniff and turned back to looking out the window, staring at what appeared to be a duck flying in the sky.
"Let me give you some advice," he continued after he got half the class' attention on him. "First, if you see something wierd around here, just shrug and ignore it, it's probably got nothing to do with you."
Interest piqued, Haruhi turned back to look at him.
"Second, if you hear someone yelling 'Ranma, prepare to die', get away from Ranma as quickly as you can; no one got hurt yet, but it's better not to chance it."
Ranma? Who was that?
"Third---"
"SAOTOME! HOW DARE YOU MISTREAT SHAMPOO!"
Haruhi whirled around so fast her hair nearly ran up her nose to stare at the source of the scream. A man in white robes and thick glasses was standing outside, launching a vicious attack of daggers and throwing stars at 'Saotome'; they made a staccato series of thunks as they flawlessly hit their target.
...strange, how could a tree mistreat a bottle of hair care product? Was he a loony?
"I'm over here, Blindy!" came another voice. Haruhi looked...
...and gasped.
Then she smiled.
The boy, obviously 'Saotome', was wearing a pair of black pants and a bright red chinese shirt, in a school full of teal and white uniforms. He had his hair long and tied in a stiff pigtail, unlike the rest of the boys who almost uniformly had theirs cropped short. It was obvious, looking at him, that he had no regard for the school rules or fitting into the student body.
It was also obvious, from the way he was standing easily on a branch, that had had no regard for the laws of physics, either.
He was a strange person.
He was a wierd person.
Her smile became a grin.
He was an interesting person. FINALLY.
-----------------------------
Notes Resumed: In a very 'her' way, Haruhi pulls Ranma away from everyone else, despite warnings from his classmates and Akane's complaints. She extorts a date out of him, in plain sight of Akane, Ukyo and Nabiki ("I just -have- to see this..."). After being told he has four fiancées and counting, Haruhi only gets more excited: He's even more interesting than she'd tought!
And when his curse is revealed, as a last-resort way to change her mind, she just grins...
-----------------------------
"Shapeshifter? Tanuki? Kitsune?"
"Um... magical curse."
"Even better!"
-----------------------------
...right.
And the greatest beauty of this is that... whoops, apparently this site doesn't have Spoiler tags, so...
...well, anyone who knows about the yet-unrevealed informations of Haruhi can easily guess what goes on with Mikuru, Yuki and Itsuki, and why they'd be in the story too... Plus, there's Haruhi's own particularity to consider...
...and for those who are completely lost, look at the Haruhi thread in Forums.Animesuki.com
And for those who haven't seen Haruhi yet, GO SEE IT. Subs are out, 4 episodes.

My only comment is that I love you. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is the best new anime currently airing and anything to do with is love. Pure love. Can't wait for the rest of the gang to show up. But, my complaint... No Kyon? Kyon is the man. His narration is the best part of the whole show ;__; I can see how he would be hard to fit in but... I'll sorely miss him.
Kyooooooooon!! ;___;
edit: Will Ranma become Haruhi's Kyon? Because, if he does, I can see dire consequences once jealousy sets in. Or will Ranma be nothing more than a passing infatuation with the extraordinary until Haruhi stumbles across a Kyon?

Haven't thought about it that far, really; if anyone wants to take it, be my guest ;)
And while I love Kyon as well (he's simply the best male lead I've ever seen), there's simply no way to fit him in; inserting Haruhi in Ranma½ is like adding a large keg of gunpowder to a merrily burning bonfire; it blows up quite beautifully. Kyon would be like water to that mix; he'd just be in the way.
To follow that analogy and make a Japanese pun, Kyon is the pot of water that's heating up over the 春火 (Haru Hi, Fire of Spring ;)) in the series. He fits just fine and you sympathise with his entertaining, sarcastic boiling.

Curses, I'd really love to see this happening but I highly doubt that I have the funny bone necesary to pull this off. Also, I'm already kinda busy replaying Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne while furiously jotting down notes and dialogue.
Well, whatever. If you decide to write it I'd read it with much gusto and give ideas and whatnot.

You know? I could barely get any sleep last night thinking over just how awesome a Ranma + Haruhi cross would be. Here are some more thoughts on how it'd work:
- Since Haruhi would be just starting a new school year as a first year highschooler that would almost certainly mean that Ranma, Akane and the others are her seniors. Ranma and Akane would be starting in their second year of Highschool. Nabiki would be starting her third, graduating at the end of the year.
- To make it easier for Haruhi to waltz in and snatch Ranma you could have it so that Ranma and Akane were placed into separate classrooms in their second year to 'cut down on repair bills'.
- Mikuru, who is Haruhi's senior, would be a new student joining Ranma's class for conveniences sake. She'd prolly know which school and class she'd need to get to, to better keep tabs on Haruhi. The series hasn't progressed far enough to know details about Mikuru but odds are that she'd do the helpless girl thing to wrap Ranma around her little finger as effectively as she wrapped Kyon. Jealousy among the fiancees would ensue but Mikuru is untouchable because she's Squeek-tan.
- Zenzen!
- Yuki, I'm almost certain, is in the same year as Haruhi. I'm going to have to rewatch to be certain though. She'd be in a different class though.
- Itsuki would, ofcourse, be a late arrival. Need more eps focusing on him.
- Ranma would, at first, write off Haruhi as yet another job and try to get as far away from her as possible. However, since Haruhi fixates on him instead of Kyon there are dire consequences which are up to Yuki and the others to explain to him. He'd have to end up swalling his pride and well.. save the world, yeah.
- Kuno would fixate on Haruhi. She'd write him off as a potato.
- Zenzen!
- I can just imagine Ryoga doing something stupid that forces Yuki to interfere and he breaks down into a blubbering pile of scaredy cat when confronted with her inhuman strength.
- Haruhi vs Nabiki. Nabiki has more experience but Haruhi has no shame. Who'd win? My money is on Haruhi.
- Haruhi finds out about Ranma's curse. Moe!
- Haruhi guilt trips, blackmails, forces Ranma into as many embarassing costumes as she does Mikuru.
- Zenzen!
- Three words: Student movie fiasco.

The Melancholy of Ranma Saotome? I can foresee a lot of sighing and 'why me?'ing the moment that Haruhi waltzes, nay, smashes, into his life.
edit: Zenzen.

The funniest part, I feel, comes from Haruhi's adorably detestable personality. She doesn't care about anyone but herself and her ideas, and doesn't care who gets hurt (emotionally if not physically) or mistreated as long as things go her way.
Remember the computer club? Remember the Baseball game? Yeah.
Essentially, in her world, only she and her interests matter, and everyone else should bend and follow her will...
...geez, sounds awfully familiar...
She's like half the Ranma cast already!
Expanding a bit on my idea, how they (could possibly) react to Haruhi:
Akane: Jealous breakdown, possibly the first one in quite a while (the timing forces this to be post-Saffron, maybe a few months after). However, her unusual, unnatural strength eventually also attracts Haruhi's attention (this is "As long as it's not a normal person, it doesn't matter if it's a guy or a girl" Haruhi, people...). Haruhi, because of Ranma's taunting, becomes certain Akane has Gorilla-youkai blood in her.
Ukyo: tries her best not to be too jealous (and failing miserably); after the ruined wedding, she found herself losing the only real grip she had on Ranma, her friendship with him. Hence, she's laying the whole "Fiancée" bit low and working on getting closer to him, even if she has to pretend to give him to Akane in the process.
A scene between her and Haruhi, with Haruhi talking about her upcoming date with Ranma and asking Ukyo for advice, would be priceless.
Shampoo: Very agressive toward Haruhi; obstacles are for killing and all that. Only Haruhi's discovery of her Jusenkyo curse keeps Haruhi safe.
...relatively.
"I'm adopting her," Haruhi decided, petting the struggling Shampoo in her arms. "I'll call her Noein." (or whatever, first supernatural being name that jumped to my head... Haruhi wouldn't pick a stupid name.)
Kodachi: Even Haruhi finds her to be a wierdo. Kodachi gets pissed after Haruhi casually tells her she's trying to date Ranma, and goes as far as saying:
"You like him too? Then stop, you'll just be in the way."
Kuno: after growing infatuated with her (in a typical Kuno fashion, possibly involving Haruhi changing her clothes right outside the gym doors and in front of him and a lot of other guys), Kuno tries to get her to beat him up for a date, but when she doesn't, and says she's not interested in 'normal guys' (to the surprise of everyone else, as 'kuno' and 'normal' being said in the same line is something akin to a sign of the apocalypse), and that she's already got someone.
Kuno, therefore, practices his tremendous logic skills, goes through a dozen false guesses and flawed theories taken directly from his somewhat delirious point of view, to reach a halfway right and halfway wrong conclusion: The boy in question is Saotome Ranma, and she's under his spell as well.
And the only way to save someone from the spell of an Oni like Ranma, he discovers from a very reliable source of information (Gosunkugi) is to hit that person over the head, as hard and often as needed to bring it out. Naturally, he immediately gets it into his mind to brain the Fiery Tigress, the Pigtailed Goddess and the Wild-haired Temptress.
(Note that THIS Haruhi still has her long hair... fun times :D)
Ranma: After the whole "Another fiancée" bit, he remembers what happened when Nabiki took the Tendo Fiancée Baton, and tries to protect Haruhi against Shampoo, Mousse, Kodachi and Kuno. Then...
"I want to jump like you," Haruhi declared. "Teach me Martial Arts."
"Wha?!" Now what was that crazy girl talking about!?
"I'll come to the Dojo tommorow morning, we'll start then."
"Er..."
"See you tommorow!"
"Er...?"
...heh. Well, that's just my ideas....

An idea for this would be to go with Haruhi style chapters, that is to say, bizarrely out of order. It would definitely take a bit of doing though, might not be worth it overall.

Writing it out of order might be a bit much... But then, it would keep in the Haruhi mood...
The point is, the Haruhi novel 1 is #1, novel 2 is #3, novel 3 is #2, that's why the episodes are being a bit @_@ right now, to reflect that. But this story, unless it grows to include more than one book, wouldn't work if written that way. The original books don't mess around with the chapters, after all.
Still... if the story grows in a "Shadow Chronicles" way, doing #3 before #2 might work: You have the result and the conclusion, and then you see how you got to the result...
...but that would be a HEADACHE to plan, and would require more organizational skills than I have for now.
...not that I plan on WRITING this story, actually, the idea is out there... (in here actually, but bug me not with technicalities!)
