When does Harry Potter chose his electives?

I hate to ask a non anime related question here, but I couldn't think of any other way to find out the answer.
When, in the books, does Harry chose his electives? I tried looking throug the beggining chapters of book three, but couldn't find anything. I also tried the ending chapters of book 2, again, nothing, although I had been pretty sure it was somewhere in book 2, I couldn't find it. I'm looking for page numbers, or a confirmation that the information simply doesn't exist outside fanfiction.
Although this isn't currently for anything to do with Ranma serifuku stuff for what I need it for right now, I _am_ thinking of a Ranma 1/2 Harry Potter crossover, although I'm unsure as to what to do about the years and Ranma's age, (I've seen many things done in other fanfictions and I wasn't quite satisfied) or what the hell the Japanese ministry of magic was doing while everything was going on in Nerima. (Perhaps Happosai is a dark lord of sorts and he's keeping them out of the way? Or maybe the Amazons? Perhaps Japan lacks an organized ministry of magic, they simply have a few powerful spellcasters who represent Japan in the International Confederation of Wizards and a Quidditch team, and they rely on Customs officials to deal with memory charms on muggles exiting the country, that one would allow for a few more crossovers to be added in. My other plan was for dimensional travel to be involved, which would perhaps, be a way to power down Ranma, maybe the different dimensions have different supernatural systems, and Ranma's ki abilities simply don't work in the HP universe, and magic on Ranma might be affected by the dimensional travel?)
Anyway, thanks for the information ahead of time. And if you have any suggestions for my Ranma 1/2 Harry Potter fic, then please lend them. I don't want a super Ranma, but I want Ranma to be involved and change the events of the books, preferably before the third book, but putting Ranma in the unbridge year would be good as well. I also want Ranma to start as a 1st year, which I plan to do this through the mushrooms, either by their latent magic being triggered by some sort of ritual, (perhaps an attempt to cure the curse) dimensional travel (different magic or the magic between worlds), or some sort of magical overload (Ranma was magical all along, the Japanese magical world just doesn't teach muggleborns or something and he never noticed his accidental magic, Ranma has lots of magic in him, from the Jusenkyo curse to the phoenix pill, to the 100 man strength noodle, to the mushrooms and other magic that might possibly leave a residue), although I don't plan on using the plot device of Ryoga finding more mushrooms, nor do I plan to have the plot diverge before the end of Ranma. I want Ranma to be struggling against athority, distrustful of figures like Dumbledore, at odds with Snape, possibly terrified of McGonagall and Mrs. Norris (or take a page from a crossover or two I saw where Ranma becomes a cat animagus) and throwing prophesy and normalcy to hell. I also want Ranma to be a bit of a prankster like the twins, and perhaps become a sort of student or accomplice of theirs. I want him (or her) to be a powerful wizard (or witch) not like Dumbledore or Voldemort type power, or even Harry's type of power but something more along the lines of being a very skilled, if not powerful, dueler, someone capable of using types of magic that are not commonly taught, or at least directly taught, at Hogwarts, power more along the lines of Hermione Granger or Lily Potter, (knowledge of rare forms of magic and ability to perform intracate spells and actually use them) and the type of power Mad-Eye Moody is implied to have ('Constant Vigilance!' great awareness of surroundings and danger, skilled at dueling, suspicious and distrustful to a fault (from a sort of betrayal in Nerima and built up experience from Nerima) and very careful), as well as some sort of magical ability or abilities (examples of which are metamorphmagus, seer, and parselmouth, but I plan not to have any of those be Ranma's power or powers). My plans are only vauge at this stage, as I'm doing research in order to stay as close to cannon as possible (manga Ranma and books Harry).

Well, I do remember the scene where they pick their electives. Harry picks what Ron does, thinking that even if he's terible at his choices, he'l have a friend there to talk to. THey dont mention the choices by name at the time, we had to wait till the next book to find out what he picked.
Hermione ignored everyone's advice and picked everything, again no subjects were mentioned by name till the next book.
Since I remember for a certain fact that the choices were made the book BEFORE he went to those clases, and he went to those clases in book 3, he made the choice in book 2.
I cant remember exactly where the choice was, since it took up about a paragraph or two, but it was in the second half of it for sure.
