So I wrote a fic called Having a Wild Time

Postby Vahn » Fri Aug 01, 2014 12:48 pm

And now much like my alternate take of what happen with Variation and other , I want to post an alternate take, should I just post it at the end of Having a Wild Time or should I make a new title? There is no real resolution but it's just a different beginning on how Momoyo and Ranma meets. It's pretty much for fun. What would be the most appropriate way to post it?

I still think if it isn't continuing the story you already have it needs its own fic. Adding it to the end of one you already started is kinda like building a blockade against any chance at ever continuing it.

Alt stories should be there own. Reference that you posted something new in the original one, but post the new stuff within a new story

Really? I mean it's barely 7k words and not even a one shot in the truest words. It's was the prototype that I made back in the day when I decided on how to start HaWT , does it really deserve it's own headline title? I figured if I stuck it at then of of HaWT and label it prototype of how it could have started then it would be more correct , since it does end without any resolution, which is my main concerned as people might assume wrongly that it's the start of a new series when it's not. Variation suffered the same fate not many people noticed that it was a oneshot .

As for a sequel, if there is one, then it would be headlining it's own title as HaWT, for all intent and purpose, is over.

For me it just doesn't look right that a 7k word story with no real resolution get it's own title which I have no plan on ever continuing, where as the HaWT series has the complete tag on it and so people won't be confused. Argh delimma!

Yes, really. And 7k words? That´s plenty enough for a short "alternative one-shot".
Now, when people write something a few hundred words and call it a finished story, that´s when it can get annoying.
But still, i know one story that isn´t even a hundred words and still really IS a complete story.

I'm with Suryn on this one. Side stories are one thing; but if it's an alternate story, don't put it in the main flow.

I agree with the rest... make it its own... even if you do not think it either would be continued *now* that does not mean it might not be continued *later*

I guess I'll post it as a brand new title fic that is a one shot ,but it's not even a coherent oneshot nothing gets resolves. Can't help but think I will be getting a lot of flak for that but we'll see how it turns out :) Thanks guys.

You could always post it on a forum for preview first... rather than immediately post to a arcive like FF.NET... unless you have no intention of correcting or improving it.

Just give it an honest foreword and it will very likely be ok. Lots of writers that post things like that.
