Question on Rune Weapons

Postby lcpoketoon » Thu Apr 26, 2007 4:28 pm

Alright I need some help for another story i'm working on. In it i'll be useing Rune Weapons based on the Summons of Final Fantasy. What I need some Help with are weapon types an powers that should go with each weapon. I've got the Main Baddie Rune Weapon already planned out.

Synn the Doom Axe

Synn was created by the evil mage Yevon, he created Synn to not only be a weapon but his armor to protect him from his many enemies. During the final stages of Synn ceration something happened trapping Yevon soul within the Rune Weapon along with the Soul of Synn. It's belived that Synn found the best way to protect it's master was to hold his soul within itself. Yevon then discovered he was able to take over the bodies of anyone who tried to weild Synn an if that body was killed he simply return to his rest inside the Doom Axe.

One of Synn most fearsome powers is it able to asourb the bodies of organic beings to create a armor around it's weilder an when it uses this power on a human their souls are trapped an crystalized. these Cystralized souls are called Materia an someone who holds on can slowly link their own soul with the one trapped int he materia an learn from them.

Synn other power allows it to fire of spikes from itself filled with it's power an turn people, animals an even plants into twisted monster bound to Yevon's will. when this happens to a human their souls are turned into Materia an trapped inside the monster till it's destoryed. This only happens with animals an plants rarely.

Synn greatest weakness is that it hungers for organic matter an the Axe will start to eat it's own armor if it hasn't fed recently. Once it finishes the armor it will turn on the body of it's Weilder slowly eating them from the inside out. Yevon knows this an so tries gather large numbers of followers he can feed to Synn.

**********************************************************************************

there is the Main Baddie an his Rune Weapon all rolled into one. I'm planning this as a Ranma/Sailor Moon/others crossover story but i need some Ideas for what shape an powers the other Rune Weapons should have.

Here are the Names i'm going with,

Alexander
Anima
Bahamut
Carbuncle
Diabolos
Fenrir
Golem
Ifrit
Shiva
Ixion
Leviathan
Moogle
Odin
Phoenix
Ramuh
Titan

Thanks for the help you all.

Poketoon! I didn't know you were a part of this forum! How are the pokegirls coming along?

Carbuncle: A shield of some sort, grants the ability to, for a few moments, bestow defensive abilities equal to a full-power Absolute Terror field.

Phoenix: A pair of longswords fashioned in the shape of a pair of wings. Grant extreme increase in... sorry... "firepower", as well as pyrokinesis. Perfect for Mars.

Alexander: A scepter the size of a quarterstaff (picture the Eternal Tier) with a jem at one end (to magnify magical output) protected by a pair of ax-like blades, so the staff can double as a halberd. I'd give this one to Moon.

Moogle: No idea what this one would be, but give it to Chibi-Moon! :P

Shiva: A pair of gloves. Focusing water-based mana into them causes the gloves to sprout an armored layer of ice that reaches back to the elbows, creating a pair of gauntlets for melee combat that instantly freeze anything they touch. Perfect for Mercury; the instant KO factor is offset by her lack of melee skill.

Ramuh: A pair of gauntlets and greaves for Jupiter, allows her to utilize her lightning as a subsitute for ki, amplifying her blows, electrifying them, and placing her firmly in Ranma territory as a martial artist.

If I think of more, I'll let you know.

*EDIT*
Well that was fast!

Odin: Built upon the shattered remnants of the Silence Glaive (destroyed in Saturn's first clash with Synn or Yevon's minions), Odin alters the Glaive by causing the Glaive's second blade (the one facing away from the scythe-blade) to grow until it is identical to the primary blade, and causing a second pair of blades to form at the Glaive's opposite end, turning the Glaive into a bladed quarterstaff. Odin's assistance allows Saturn to utilize her powers with more finesse, expanding her arsenal of attacks to include, among others, a mana ball attack (like World Shaking) called White Noise.

I disagree, Ramuh should be a staff, as he is almost always portrayed as wielding one in all of his summons.

Odin would be better if it were either made into a spear like Gungnir, or a large, but not oversized, sword, which would give her the ability to make a super fast slash through rows of enemies, slaying them instantly.

Fenrir should be a clawed gauntlet set with fur trim, that has the power to temporarilly grant the wearer the beastial strength of its namesake, causing a temporary werewolf effect when triggered.

Ixion should be silvery, almost technological looking gauntlets, and bear electrical effects.

Bahamut: A massive two handed sword, a gem in the hilt should be able to be used to harness the magic effect known as Mega Flare.

Titan: Appearing to be shackles, as if on a slave or prisoner, when worn, they would grant massive mystical strength and durability, but throw the wearer into a berserk rage.

Personally I find the idea of rune weapons and what you want to do with this rather disgusting.
And don’t get me started on pokegirls, *gag*.

Oh by all means, DCG, feel free to keep your pokegirl-hating opinions to yourself. I know I won't be asking about them... Who said they'd even be involved in the story? LC just wants suggestions on weapon powers. What's so "disgusting" as you put it, about that?

Not just the powers but also their personalitiy of the weapons an what style of weapon they should be. Like for Ifrit when he was still alive he was a warrior of Mars an also well versed in fire magics. He enjoys battles an faceing off against powerful oppenets. He was also married to the ice witch of Mercury Shiva. Their two Rune weapons are the best when it comes to working together an they don't mind haveing a single weilder between them as it allows them to meet in their weilder's dreams. Shiva is calm an more protective then her husband towards her weilders. when they are together she is able to help keep his temper in check.

Ifrit is in weapon that is a mix of a war hammer and a axe made of a black metal with red flame like markings on it.

Shiva is in a Rune Weapon that looks like it is a scimitar made of ice.

Seraphim

I think why he's disqusted with the Rune Weapon idea is the nature behind it.

A Rune Weapon, to my knowledge, is a weapon which powered by a soul of a living being; Usually unwillingly. If the weapon is destroyed, so is the soul residing in it.
An example that I can think off the top of my head is the Rune Weapon in Shade's "Private Bet #10" Ranma owns named Ishtar which happens to be a goddess's soul trapped in the weapon.

I think the Pokegirls is self-explanatory.
Ranma rolled over so that she was back to sitting next to, and clinging to, Setsuna, "Now Puu... are you going to be a good girl and tell me what I want? Or will I have to punish you in the name of Love and Justice."
"You did not just say that," Setsuna groaned.

Is *that* what a rune weapon is? Well, now I can understand DCG's distaste for the concept, but suppose the story is based on a quest to release the trapped souls? Or better yet, suppose the Senshi need the weapons to defeat their latest foe or the Earth'll be destroyed or whatever, yet they loath themselves for wielding such abominations? That's a moral struggle on par with the plight of the Outers throughout SMS.

I think the Pokegirls is self-explanatory.

Look, can we just drop the PG's? I know there's a lot of people who are disgusted by Metroanime's creations, but if this turns into an arguement about how disgusting people think the concept is, I can virtualy guarantee this'll end with flames flying around.

Aa. Understandable, I suppose. Pretty good explanation on R.W's, it's about right IIRC, from reading DnD articles.

Definately.
