A couple of Marller/Mara questions

Postby Metroidvania » Wed Jan 17, 2007 10:08 pm

I've got a plot idea that's incessantly nagging at me in my head when I attempt to write, and it mainly involves Mara of A/OMG....
Unfortunately, my manga collection of OMG is limited to volumes 1, 2, 19, and 20. (Don't ask)
First off, I know of her weakness to rock, but does she have a power booster such as Urd's Sake?
Second, Just how allergic to good luck charms is she? Wiki says she got amnesia once due to them, but any confirmation?
Third, her motivation for attacking Belldandy and Urd is mainly to make it so that the demons will be the only ones completing contracts, correct?
Forth, does she have a dedicated demon-servant like Welsper? I don't think so, but confirmation would be nice...I know she uses Senbei for a while, but I mean as in a demonic equivalent of an angel...
And finally, (I think), is there a confirmation of her being the doublet partner of Belldandy, or possibly Urd?
Any help, or a dedicated OMG link would be appreciated.
Thanks,
MV

Pretty much

The only known doublet pair is Belldandy and Welsper. No other doublet's are known and given the fact that Belldandy's memory of Welsper was erased yet Urd and Mara remember each other as childhood friends the odds of those two being a doublet seem remote.

The lucky-charm amnesia thing did happen. She turned Megumi into a sports car, stepped on the purification arrow that Megumi dropped, and then lost a sizable amount of her memories until she was hit with a larger good-luck item. During that story, Urd actually managed to cause Mara some pain with a lottery ticket.

Marller (The correct spelling of her name; it's how Fujishima spells it when he uses romanji) doesn't have a known recharge method. IIRC, the demons don't work that way. Only the gods and goddesses need them.
Mara has a sidekick in Senbei, who specializes in causing small misfortunes to happen. Since demons do not have anything like the angels who are the goddesses' partners, Senbei has to do.
Here's what Kosuke Fujishima had to say about her in a short character bio he once wrote:
MARLLER: DATA
Demon first-class, unrestricted. With the "Demons CD" as her catalyst, Marller entered the story when she was accidentally summoned by Tamiya. Her job is to hinder the goddesses, and she uses an abandoned game center as her secret base of operations. She is an employee of the Demon Office, but she has a terrible allergy to good-luck charms, and when she hears rock music, she dances uncontrollably. Because of these weaknesses, she still hasn't been able to force the goddesses to return to Heaven. Although she at first proclaimed herself to be Belldandy's fiancé, the truth was soon revealed - Marller is a woman. She also likes to wear daring fashions that show off her chest. She is a childhood friend of the
three goddesses, and has always been especially close to Urd. Because of this, she performs her duties as a demon somewhat inconsistently. She has several special powers such as the "Marller Devil Serve" (her special table tennis technique).

1. Marller entered the story when Tamiya bought her catalyst, the "Demons CD", and summoned her. She owed him a wish at that point, but no harm was done because Tamiya's inadvertent wish was "Get the hell out of here!!"
2. Her bed is a Japanese coffin.
3. Marller has "booster demons" and other special-purpose critters she can call on.
4. She has a fondness for mail order, and occasionally gets some bizarre and powerful artifacts from Hell's mail order service.
5. Marller is allergic to good luck charms. On a New Year's day, when she stepped on a hamaya and then bumped into a kadomatsu, Marller lost all of her memories.

Thanks for the help, Knight and Larry.
The link is what I was looking for.

Ah, I was wondering, since Wellsper had Blue Lance.....

Eh? Do not have anything like angels? Then what happens with devils? Big part of volume 25 plot revolving around swapping angels inside of goddess on devils, which, in turn, should transform goddesses in demons.

Haven't read v. 25, but all the data on Marller from canon points to her not having a bond-partner, like gods and angels. Nor do any of the other demons - those few that make appearances. As a guess, I'd say it's a trick that would only work on gods. Since demons don't have bond-partners, you couldn't change one into a god that way.

Uhh... Hild, and IMO demons in general, think that depending on someone else is stupid. Quote from vol 25
Goddesses are such a foolish creatures. They can't fight alone and thus create a weakness. Just by separating you, you can't act anymore. Why would you wish for something like that ? - Mini-Hild

Nor do any of the other demons - those few that make appearances

Actually you a little wrong here. Wellsper get himself(herself :)) a devil that Belldandy purified. He gave her a rather... long... name.

Here's an answer from the OMG Wiki:
There is no real demon equivalent of an angel, although Mara conjures up demon servants that don't fit the definition of an angel. However, later on, Welsper obtains a purified Tsukai, which he names Die Wespe der Blauen Lanze (German for The Wasp of the Blue Lance). Judging from Hild's words in the Lind arc, demons are actually more powerful than goddesses (and also have fewer restrictions) and in order to balance things out goddesses are given angels.

Strange... Devil also appears from egg's, which look very similar to angel egg's. If i find host, can even show a page where Hild implant devil egg into Bell.
PS. Im not sayng that Wiki wrong, but still...

Use Imageshack or Photobucket, both are free and both will give a bit of code for use on message boards like this.
Scan the page and upload the image to one of the image hosting sites.
Also, what chapter of the AMS manga has Hild putting the demon into Bell?
I do vaguely remember an arc where Hild was trying to "turn" Bell but have forgotten which chapter that was.

Thanks. Okkay:).
Here, here and here. See that thing in Hild-chan arm? This is a devil egg.

This is actually a rather long arc, from end of volume 24 to a beggining of volume 26.
