Bulletproof?

Postby Crescent Pulsar S » Fri Nov 23, 2012 4:10 am

I was wondering if someone like Ranma could be bulletproof. I'm taking my cue from Ranma's fight with Ryu, and only getting lacerations from an attack that cut clean through a large statue of Buddha. I'm almost certain that a single bullet couldn't hope to do anything like that.

Before anyone says "glancing blow," there are three "bash" sounds when the attack hits Ranma, and I generally don't associate that kind of sound with blows that don't hit something solidly. And if the one that's shown to hit his raised forearm doesn't seem to be dead-on enough of a hit, just check out the one cut in his shirt that's over his chest. It doesn't start nor end at a side or a shoulder, and he was facing the attack at the time, not showing his profile.

So? It seems like he could be bulletproof. But I'm an idiot, so I need input other than my own.

Effectively yes, most likely. Probably quite dependent on how focused he is at the time would be my guess however.
Exactly what kind of bullet and at what distance probably also makes a big difference.
And Ryouga could probably take things one notch more powerful.

Post manga, Ranma is bulletproof enough for most conventional guns at least. And would appear to be able to resist swords slashing at him as well.

Funny moment in my mind, Ranma commits seppeku and Nodoka slashes the sword down, but the tanto bounces off his stomach and the sword can't cut his neck.

*Suddenly envisions Ranma cosplaying as Superman in an American comic convention*

He'd just need to fly, right? XD;;

"hey, if you are superman... Why aren't you flying?"

"I'm original superman. I leap buildings instead."

It was done, with paintaking calculations. Then the thread wa gone, long before the recent crash.

In short:
a 9mm handgun: the bullet will penetrate a couple centimeters, leaving a wound and a hell of a bruie. Bit it won't kill him.
Anything more energetic, like AK: he'll be as perforated as a regular guy.

I think it was made the beast in that fic, when he, a a small girl, got into Alucard's fight the day before he was going to Hogwarts. The little Ranma returned home, and started pulling bullets out of herelf with tweezers. She got all except the one that lodged itelf deep into her liver. And despite that she still tried to fake being Ok, to not mis going to Hogwarts.

That's very realitically Ranma. Not so much bullet-proof as able to go on despite wounds, and healing at a fantastic rate.

Wait, didn't that thread say that Ranma's fist break the sound barrier?

couldn't he catch the bullets? At least in fiction land?

If you accept the method that The Flash uses to catch bullets then yes in theory Ranma also could. But not many at once.

So as long as its not automatic or semi, or more than 3 at once, he should be fine.

Would being a girl up the speed or not? O_o

So long as Ranma can keep track of the bullet and there aren't more than 2 at him for him to stop at once Chestnut fist could in theory let him catch them so long as he scoops them out of the air because they still have no more mass than when they were put in the gun but the momentum is what makes them dangerous.

I don't understand how a 9mm bullet can do as much or more damage than Ryu's attack when said attack completely eclipses what a 9mm bullet would be able to do to the same stone Buddha statue. It would probably take hundreds (likely more) 9mm bullets to chip away at the statue just to get to the point where a part of it will fall over, because its weight is no longer being supported.

That's CUTTING power, though. Not penetrating power.

It's why no matter how strong, you can't carry a huge object because all the pressure is on one spot.

Bullets are tiny, so all that power is in a little area.

Thats like saying you don't know how a scalpel can possibly cut more effectively than a hammer. It was energy imparted with the will to cut and absolutely no blunt aspect it is as thin as the energy can be.

The real question you should ask is if Ranma is sword proof?

It's like chain mail, you can't slice it, but a bullet will destroy it.

Having enough of your own ki can also blunt the effects of ki attacks if you use it right. Every move has a counter if you know it well enough.
