Things you really don't care for in fan-fiction

Any story using Rape I don't care for. There are some stories where the character grows from it but it is rare to find a fanfic author that takes rape even an imaginably small fraction seriously enough.

Worse, in fics where to know what it's like to "be a real girl" involves rape or at least sex with a guy. Pretty much saying that lesbians aren't real girls.

And that brings me to another thing I hate in any fiction, fan or not: the whole "rape is/leads to love" thing.

Or almost as bad consented to violent sex that is warned in advance could kill a character . How or why would anyone want that written for any reason?

Also, there are some where Akane learns of Ranma being raped and cruely says he desired it.

Really? Akane is Canonically afraid that she or Ranma would get raped several times!

A common thing in ranma fan fiction which has annoyed me since, i dont know, forever is the fanon idea that Nabiki is the sole provider in the tendo household. Attempting to justify her hustling ranma out of cash and selling photos of her and akane when in fact its clear in the anime that its solely for her own spending.

Another thing is how kodachi is sometimes included as a fiancée, usually in fics where ranma tries to resolve the fiancée mess in an honorable fashion. She is no more a fiancée to ranma than Tatewaki kuno.

These are just annoyances and not reasons enough for me to discard a fic by themselves, its fan fiction after all. Im guessing that whatever things I "really don't care for" have already been mentioned earlier in the thread but writing out the curse is one of them.

Oh yes, THAT.

I don't know any reason why people think Nabiki actually does that. She doesn't really care about others. Not to mention Soun HAS a job. We never see him at it. But Nabiki isn't a manager of the money for the house. Nor does she have a network of people. Nor cronies. Nor using the money for any selfless reasons. Nor able to track Ranma anywhere on earth!

As for Kodachi, some people seem to forget that. I blame fanscantrons of the manga again.

It might be because she hounds Ranma but he doesn't do anything against her.

Speaking of Nabiki:

Nabiki isn't a perfect mover and hussler for her gambling operations; hell, she's lost at least once big time in the manga. She's an opportunist and all the times she's stuck Ranma for something, it's been small change things. She does have a manipulative bent to her, but she's also greedy and impatient as well.

Also, I dislike how some authors seem to think that her demanding 30,000-50,000Y from Kuno for some poloroid pics or 'up to date' news on Ranma-chan is correct. These are 17yr old high school students and even if Tatewaki is 'rich' I highly doubt he'd drop $300.00 for some generic news. At most, I think I remember it being maybe 3,000Y for the photos at the begining of the series.

As for Kodachi, some people seem to forget that. I blame fanscantrons of the manga again.

I do not believe the fanscan is at fault here I believe it comes from the anime for example the time Genma calls Kodachi daughter after she hugs him calls him father and gives him a bundle of Yen Notes (Season 3 episode called Kodachi the Black Rose! The Beeline to True Love) - which is a much better deal than the food given in an earlier episode that made Koari Daikoku his fiancee. The anime treats her more like a fiancee than I recall the fanscan ever did.

Which kinda makes me wonder if Genma would engage Ranma to the Kuno's if he knew how rich they were before arriving at the Tendos...

Anyway, what also bugs me is that nearly every fic that is AU, Ranma STILL ends up engaged to Akane.

Like if he showed up male, Nabiki is grabbing him logically, but in fanfiction Akane still gets him for no reason.

And another thing, even if she's not engaged to him, Akane ends up hating Ranma for no damn reason.

Like one where Soun says he's going to marry Ranma then because she's a she and Akane threatens to kill Ranma.

Justified: Akane has boy issues from Tatewaki and the 'Hoard'. It's understandable she'd distrust Ranma for a while since he's a new guy and going to marry one of her sisters, but only for a while. Since the pressure isnt on her to marry Ranma, I'd see her coming around pretty damn quickly compared to Canon.
As for if Ranma's 'really a girl' fics and shows up female with Akane still hating; that's just bad writing. In Canon, before Ranma was known to be a guy, Akane was perfectly friendly to Ranma.

Yet, the difference is that in canon, Akane being engaged, then insulted by Ranma was what got her mad. And early she was still mostly civil to him.

And in canon, she's civil to Kuno if he shuts up and keeps his hands to himself.

I'd see it more likely she treats him like Ryoga with caution. Perhaps a bit of "be nice to my sister, you hear?" thing but not murderous rage I see a lot.

Which is why I made a few fics where the situation gets off better.

Another one that bugs me is that Kasumi being portrayed as being dumber than a brick.

While she's not observant at times, she reads stuff from Dr tofu! But no. I see her sometimes be incrediblly stupid.
