Your Destiny is Annulled, Ch. 36

Postby Cheb » Sun Jul 06, 2014 12:44 pm

Ahhh... Finally!

http://ranmafics.ru/fanfics/your_destin ... a36e.shtml

I was planning on finishing this chapter two weeks ago. Because, you know, the fic is completed, the only thing left is to translate. But the translation is *crawling* :(

Ch.36 at 100% / 100%
Ch.37 at 100% / 0
Ch.38 at 100% / 0
Ch.39 at 100% / 100%
Ch.40 at 100% / 0
Ch.41 at 100% / 80%

It's the finish run, yay! :D

There are 2 reasons.
1). Glad to have finished the fic, Cheb switches to his game engine that was gathering dust since 2009. It crashes. Grumbling, Cheb gets under the hood to fix..aaaah the horrors who taught me to write the code nooo not the custom generics made up of macros! aaargh what is this Lovecraftian mess of raw pointer type-casts nooo help my eyes are bleeding ahhhh HeIsComIng...

2). I catch the sight of the TV. ...again several Russian women and children killed, the Kievan punishers bombed a church during the liturgy ... Obama approved ... destroying the infrastructure, soon several millions will be left without drinking water ... see this plan here, made in the U.S. department of state: it's the instruction for Poroshenko how to perform a genocide of Russians. So far, he is following it to the letter ... CLICK.
Takes it most of the day for my loathing towards Americans to die down. Finally, at the evening I have discharged to my usual moderately cosmopolitan self, in a mood to translate my fic, when the TV accidentally catches my eye again..
...a five-years old boy killed during the shelling the next day after his birthday ... the puppets of Washington had switched to the tactic of terror shelling city districts indiscriminately as an intimidation tactics ... the rebels stand strong, taking a T-34 from its pedestal. It still works! Now it is fighting against Nazis as it was 70 years ago ... shooting at women and children ... Obama threatens sanctions in support of the Nazis ... a journalist dying on screen after an unprovoked shooting by the Ukrainian army ... CLICK fuckity CLICK.
Well, it seems wartime is counterproductive to peaceful writing :( Especially if about 40% of your readers are a paper-thin-veiled enemy.
Of course, I cross-check everything and look at every news with a critical eye. But however I try, this doesn't look more than 50% propaganda. The other half... Well, A) U.S.A has a confirmed habit of smearing the globe in blood distributing murder and strife. B) Ukraine as a "state" is so artificial (because their difference from Russians is paper thin, duh) and every historical figure of note is so much a part of the *Russian* history that they had to dredge up real crap to find something that is not-Russian. Uplifting Hitler's lapdogs and slayers of Jews to national heroes, uplifting Waffen SS batallions to exemplary heroic ancestors... When you detract the joint Soviet-Russian history, a glaring emptiness remains. They had 20 years to fill it up with utter crap layer upon layer. Is it surprising that that resulted in a runaway Nazism? And Obama supported it gleefully.

At least there are some good things coming out of this. The reputation of E.U. and U.S.A. is ruined irrevocably, these will be remembered as disgusting Nazi-supporting hypocrites for the decades to come. I hope the relations will be "nothing personal, just business" from now on. There are simplified procedures for getting the RF citizenship now. My neighbor's common-law husband (from Kharkiv) had lots of problems with registration for more than a decade, paying every 3 months for a license to stay in the country, only able to work illegally. They are filling for citizenship now. The doors are open, a lot of refugees from that hell will become the citizens of RF (my taxpayer side can only sigh and repeat 'stand strong, it was incomparably harder for our grandfathers': Crimea alone will be draining three billions USD/year by the optimistic estimates). If your home is destroyed, what's the difference where to settle from the grounds up? No one is bombing here in Russia, that's a huge factor.

Excuse me for bringing this here... NOT. I have to watch this every day, you know. But that's nothing. Someone has to live this every day.

But know this: I will continue translating this fic no matter... correction: unless a direct war confrontation opens between NATO and my country. well, NATO as a whole seems stupid enough to do just that. Like Gaara, it needs to keep killing to prove its existence. In which case we'll continue the discussion Ranma's adventure in whatever afterlife the perverts watching Sailor Moon are sent after a fiery atomic death. I'm in no worry: my office window look directly at the site of an important government bunker, only two or three kilometers away.

P.S. I just downloaded and watched SM Crystal, Ep. 1. It has a... strong flavor of GAINAX. We'll see. I hope the Senshi will be the real powerhouses they are in the manga. The super-dynamic animations of their attacks from the opening give a strong hope for that. Pity there's less humor now.

P.P.S. C&C is as always welcome :D

P.P.P.S Is italics readable enough? I was experimenting with fonts on the website.

Just a quick political note I hope people won't mind. I don't think Obama is trying for genocide. I think he's only trying to provoke WWIII to finish what he started when he first got elected to any office in Illinois. The destruction of capitalist society, primary target the United States of America. He just wants the Russians who survive to give him some help in that department.

Since your English is quite fine, you probably should consider simply writing in English from the start.
I know from experience that translating fiction can be very problematic, especially because it´s difficult to catch the same "feel" as in the original language. Sometimes you have to essentially rewrite parts, chapter by whole chapter and risk completely messing it up, to achieve a good translation.

Myself, i very deliberately write in English, even though i am a translator and in theory perfectly able to translate anything from Swedish to English. It´s just too hard to get it as good as the original text.
So i take a few seconds extra while writing and write only in English instead.

Takes it most of the day for my loathing towards Americans to die down. Finally, at the evening I have discharged to my usual moderately cosmopolitan self, in a mood to translate my fic, when the TV accidentally catches my eye again..

Sadly, EU in general and various people within it and NATO are at least as guilty. The foreign minister here, Carl Bildt has shown himself to be a... i find myself actually lost for words to call him... This is the man who some years ago is stupid enough to publicly step up and berate the Russian PM for submarine intrusions, based on sound recordings already analysed years ago, beyond any doubt, having been cleared of being ANY subs at all, and that analysis was openly available and everyone already knew about the whole thing, and he still walks up and in front of live TV cameras throws such an accusation?

And NOW, he´s openly placing our national support behind people in Ukraine that are so "questionable" to say the least, that even the VERY extremeist party SVP here(so extreme that it only has a few hundred members and gets about the same amount of votes in elections) has actually quit their cooperation with them.

So don´t get stuck angry just at the yanks, because they´re mostly playing second fiddle in this engineered "crisis".

Well, it seems wartime is counterproductive to peaceful writing :( Especially if about 40% of your readers are a paper-thin-veiled enemy.

Most americans are barely even aware of what is happening. People in EU knows more, but problem is that the massmedia is overall so freakishly biased that it´s absurd. Almost no matter what it does, if it´s Russia doing it, it´s evil or at minimum, suspicious, by default.

It became BIG news when Russia started doing strategic deterrence flights again, the fact that USA never stopped doing the same in the more than a decade in between, wasn´t even mentioned.
Pathetically biased.

B) Ukraine as a "state" is so artificial (because their difference from Russians is paper thin, duh) and every historical figure of note is so much a part of the *Russian* history that they had to dredge up real crap to find something that is not-Russian.

There is enough in history for SOME sort of "Ukraine"(with some small amount of stretching at least), but the current hodgepodge? It´s just based on what was considered a suitable administrative region during the Soviet era.

And if the governments of Ukraine since creation hadn´t been so obsessed by the idea of "one unified greater Ukraine", this mess would never even had a chance to happen, most of the so called "separatists" never were, they are people who have repeatedly asked for a more federalised state because the Kiev regime was never good for their regions.

It´s rather disheartening.

At least there are some good things coming out of this. The reputation of E.U. and U.S.A. is ruined irrevocably, these will be remembered as disgusting Nazi-supporting hypocrites for the decades to come. I hope the relations will be "nothing personal, just business" from now on.

Support the pipeline projects to China and then simply sell to whoever pays the best or deals honestly with you, let EU reap what they sow. And seriously, i´m surprised Ukraine hasn´t just been cut off, considering just how much shenanigans and outright theft of gas they´ve been doing.

Excuse me for bringing this here... NOT. I have to watch this every day, you know. But that's nothing. Someone has to live this every day.

Wont be popular with all, but i don´t mind. It NEEDS to be brought up more.

well, NATO as a whole seems stupid enough to do just that. Like Gaara, it needs to keep killing to prove its existence.

I´m afraid your comparison may very well be far closer to the truth than it should be. Their guarantees to Russia as part of the dissolution of the USSR have clearly been not just broken and dropped, but utterly trampled on.

In which case we'll continue the discussion Ranma's adventure in whatever afterlife the perverts watching Sailor Moon are sent after a fiery atomic death.

Well, at least we might have decent company then.

I hope the Senshi will be the real powerhouses they are in the manga.

YES! Powerful senshi for the win! :P

P.P.S. C&C is as always welcome

Cant oblige with that unfortunately, still waaaay behind on this story.

back to our sheeps, this chapter contains a bit too much author tract. I admit I just had nowhere else to stick these topics in. The following chapters are either all action or the grand finale.

, still waaaay behind on this story.

:(...

Since your English is quite fine,

It is? Well, I think im getting a hang on the verb tenses. Everything by the gut feeling agai, though. I haven't looked into that table in months.

you probably should consider simply writing in English from the start.

I had already considered this. The obstacles are:
1. My speed would drop
2. My vocabulary is significantly smaller, so the quality would drop (during translating this chapter I had to refer a couple dozen times to multitran.ru and urbandictionary.com )
3. It's translating either way as I don't want to abandon the Russian version.

So i take a few seconds extra while writing and write only in English instead.

Hmmm... I'll try when I work on the sequel (that would be autumn I think).

There is enough in history for SOME sort of "Ukraine"

I'd say they still had the chance to build something respectable, even a year ago. But they blew it, sadly.
The more I see the more I realize that having someone you can vote for and not feel ashamed is a rarity that should be cherished. More often than not it's a choice (figuratively speaking) between a clown and a faggot. The list of people I could respect includes Putin, Roosevelt... uh. That's all? :( There are probably more, I'm not that good at the world's history.

Support the pipeline projects to China and then simply sell to whoever pays the best or deals honestly with you,

That's the general idea lately. But talking is easy, building a pipeline takes years. There's already one being built towards China.
But our parliament is scarily enthusiastic. They ever threatened to kick Visa and MasterCard out till September if these won't redirect all transaction chains to be performed inside the country. Irresponsible as hell, but maybe that was just racketeering? It calmed down, thankfully. They are still pushing to displace these with some domestic system, after the example of UnionPay.

´m surprised Ukraine hasn´t just been cut off, considering just how much shenanigans and outright theft of gas they´ve been doing.

1) The northern bypass route doesn't have enough throughput. The southern bypass route won't be ready until 2016. Someone from inside EU keeps sabotaging it with some stupid regulations.
2) The countries of the Eastern Europe *still* do not have a redistribution system. Their pipe systems remain the ends of 'spokes' growing out of Russia. So if Ukraine cuts them off they're screwed. Utterly irresponsible.

And if the governments of Ukraine since creation hadn´t been so obsessed by the idea of "one unified greater Ukraine",

The latest news I heard this evening (much less reliable than facts as this is analysis and thus is subject to propaganda warping): it's some local oligarch together with the son of the U.S. vice president (I think? Or was it someone else high-ranked?) trying to depopulate the region and then use it for making shale gas. That oligarch does have his own army of punishers and (unconfirmed) Blackwater mercenaries and he just... refused to stop. The president ordered to continue fighting just so that it *looks* like his orders are followed. Very sad.
From what I know so far, the Ukrainian army consists mostly of conscripts who perform the 'screw this, I'm going home' maneuver at the slightest chance. They can't even station them near the border because the soldiers then start fleeing to Russia. There were reports of those who don't want to fight being executed.

You can thank Agenda 21 from the UN out of Brazil in the 1970's for more than 90% of the delays on the southern Bypass route. It use to be easier to access on the UN web site but you can still dig it up. Just not directly link to it any more. Sorry about the lack of C&C so far though kinda still reading many other things right now.

It is? Well, I think im getting a hang on the verb tenses. Everything by the gut feeling agai, though.

I wouldn´t be able to place you geographically based on your English >90% of the time. And i´m not exactly bad at that. And especially Russian speakers(among a few others) tends to be be easy to notice due to how they often have certain "language tics" so to speak, i´m only very rarely seeing anything like that from you. To the point where i now can´t recall the last time.

Ah ok, 1,2 are probably not THAT important unless your writing goes down a LOT, but 3 means it effectively becomes useless for you to write in English, as then you will probably get an even more mangled version when translating to Russian.

Hmmm... I'll try when I work on the sequel (that would be autumn I think).

You can test yourself, try writing the same scene(short one) in both languages(without translating between them i mean, write both as original text), then see how long it took for either, and read them and see how well you like the "ambience"/feel of the text of both versions.

I'd say they still had the chance to build something respectable, even a year ago. But they blew it, sadly.

Yeah, not much hope for a "good" and simple solution now.

The more I see the more I realize that having someone you can vote for and not feel ashamed is a rarity that should be cherished. More often than not it's a choice (figuratively speaking) between a clown and a faggot.

Or a bunch of complete idiots. I mean look at current government here, they are actually trying to implement policies "inspired" by USA, but not the good parts, oh no, they´re trying to use the parts that have already long since shown to be complete disasters. It´s totally insane.

Worse, they actually reacted to a serious risk of potentially having all your credit cards blanked out/made useless and at least all transactions under scrutiny by NSA and CIA, BEFORE allowed to be completed. There was a bundle of more crap involved as well, but the general idea was to screw the Russian economy over so badly it would be thrown into severe recession.

Utterly irresponsible.

True, i know. But when it´s gone to the point where it sometime has in the last several years, it´s "above and beyond" you might say, not acting harsher against it.

it's some local oligarch together with the son of the U.S. vice president (I think? Or was it someone else high-ranked?)

Nope, i believe you got it right.

trying to depopulate the region and then use it for making shale gas.

That part sounds more like conspiracy theory than reality though. From what i have been able to find, he´s been put in Ukraine to get involved with the local energy business(and influence and corruption carousel of course), but so far at least, he does not seem be involved in the creating Ukraines "Short Victorious War"(ref Honor Harrington scifi series).

That oligarch does have his own army of punishers and (unconfirmed) Blackwater mercenaries and he just... refused to stop. The president ordered to continue fighting just so that it *looks* like his orders are followed. Very sad.

There´s at least some mercenaries in the area, but they don´t seem to have been very active(or visible) once there was fighting outside of Kiev, so it seems they were mostly used to create the mess and are now mostly sitting around just acting as glorified personal security forces for the bigwigs.

From what I know so far, the Ukrainian army consists mostly of conscripts who perform the 'screw this, I'm going home' maneuver at the slightest chance. They can't even station them near the border because the soldiers then start fleeing to Russia.

Not everyone, but the majority certainly seemed to be of that "persuasion", which also appears to be why Ukraine switched to attacks of the more ranged and flying sort.

There were reports of those who don't want to fight being executed.

Yeah, still no hard info on wether it was true or used to scare troops to become "better motivated", but even if just the latter that is still really bad.
