Name for a grenade launcher

Postby SpaceKnight of Chaos » Thu Jul 16, 2009 5:19 pm

I've been trying to track down the precise identity of the Multiple Grenade Launcher used by the vampire "Incognito" in Gonzo's 13-episode anime version of Hellsing. Beyond the fact it's a drum-fed 40 millimeter model produced by ArmsCor, a South African weapons production company, I haven't been able to determine its make or name. Can anyone help me out?
Water, water, everywhere, and all was cursed and black!
Drowned ones cast bad spell and out come pig, girl, duck, panda!
Swirl, swirl, slithery pond, and join with magic spring!
Swirl, swirl, dirty pond, and rid the cursed sting!
Here my prayer, I beg you please!
Now turn these curses BACK!

It seems someone has no idea for scale and was calling it a 40mm MGL. Seeing how that would be 4 centimeters wide on the barrel aperture. The shells are drawn wider than that but the barrel in the screen shots I saw on the page with the info showed the barrel narrower.

I know that it's probably not a 40mm launcher, but it is based on a real grenade launcher- I recall seeing a picture of it at Wikipedia, though I don't recall the article it was in and the ArmsCor article makes no mention whatsoever of what weapons the corporation actually produces.

The closest I can find in real weapons is 30mm and drums tend to be holding chains of ordinance not individual rounds. What I'm seeing for Helsing is really an over-sized revolver not even drawn correctly for it's supposed 12 round capacity. It should have at least 4 flutes/scoops at least partially visible on the side of the cylinder But the screenshots I am seeing show 3.

Didn't the Rambo movies have a 50mm grenade launcher that stacked up the rounds like you'd find in a repeating shotgun?

There are several six-shot revolving grenade launchers. The South African company is Milkor, and they have two designs, both in 40mm. If there are auto or semiauto grenade launchers with ordnance diameters greater than 40mm, I've never heard of them. The only ones i know about that are larger are single shot weapons like the Russian RPG series, or the WWII German Panzerfausts.
