The Senshi of OZ

Emerald Power Make UP!

With a ki punch here,
High kick there
And a couple of Emerald blasts
That's how we dust the bad youma
In the merry old land of OZ

In the Name of the Wizard I will punish you!

Actually, in the original version of the story, the slippers were silver. It was changed to ruby in the movie so that they could show off the fact that the movie was in color (That was still new back then), and since "ruby slippers" sounds better than "silver shoes", it stuck.

Also, Emerald is the color of the capital of Oz. Each of the regions of Oz had its own color associated with it (Blue for east, red for south, yellow for west, and I think north was purple). That should be evident in a Senshi for Oz, unless you want to create a Senshi for each region in that region's primary color.

I wouldn't recommend this, as Sailor Munchkin just sounds wrong.

All the Stage performances for Wizzard of Oz I ever found scripts for had the slippers as Emerald. And durring the Aniversery special they mentioned that the green of their attempt at Emerald slippers looked like a yellowy muddy shade aginst the grass after putting the negative through the Technicolor process.

I really need to add an unabridged copy of the original story back into my book hunt list.

Edit: As for the North color. The costume details for Glenda the Good Fairy from the North was in White primarilly but Lavender accents were reccomended. I really have to get ahold of an unabridged novel. Chances are she should have been in silvers but silver was costly for budgeted theater groups and some of those older scripts were from Riverboats.

In the book, the shoes were silver. They were also destroyed when Dorothy used them to return home. The next time Dorothy ended up in Oz, she gave the magic artifact of the week (A belt) to Ozma, and she used the power of the belt to send Dorothy back. Since the belt stayed in Oz, it remained for use in later stories.

In Oz, white is the color associated with good witches, of any region.

You have that wrong. Glinda is the Good Witch of the South, or Quadling Country. The country's color is red.

The Good Witch of the North, the Gillikin Country, is Locasta. She's the one who shows up in the Munchkin Country after the Wicked Witch of the East is destroyed by Dorothy's house, and advises Dorothy to go to the Emerald City to see Oz, the wizard. The North's color is purple.

In the movie, which butchered much of the canon story, the two Good Witches are combined in a character named Glinda, supposedly from the North, and she is the one that shows up in Munchkinland and later tells Dorothy how to get home, but that's not canon. They did that deliberately to save time and avoid hiring an additional actress.

If you created a bevy of Oz Senshi, you could name them after their colors, rather than their countries. Sailor Vert, Sailor Azure, Sailor Gules, Sailor Or, and Sailor Purpure, that would be.

Spokavriel wrote:I can easily see Green makeup and Jewelry but changing her hair color just doesn't seem right to me. Sure it was the predominent hair color in Oz but since Judy Garland and Technicolor changed the slippers crystal from Emerald to Ruby did that really have to happen?

Given that Rumiko Takahashi made drawings of Ranma-chan in a variety of colours I think I can have the license to change her hair colour for this one.

Having gone back to the book I realize I've forgotten her Emerald coloured glasses that everyone who lived in or visited the Emerald city had to wear.

Four regions and the capital city. 5 senshi - why not? Do as the movie did and have their "doubles as the OZ senshi: Mercury as Sailor Azure; Mars as Sailor Gules; and Saturn as Sailor Sailor Purpure You could have Chibi Usa as Sailor Or the senshi of Munchikinland.

A Moon Rabbit in Oz - There you go, there's a title for you.
Other cast characters:

Ranma - Tip/Ozma

Genma - the cowardly panda
Mamoru - Strawman
Soun - the tinman

Happosai - the wizard

Akane -good witch/bad witch
Shampoo -good witch/bad witch
Kasumi- good witch
Nabiki - good witch/bad witch

cologne - leader of the Munchikins

I'll just say that the movie wasn't the first one to take part in that character frappé and thank you for pointing out even more reasons for me to try to get the book into my personal library.

Edit: Yep it could use a thread of it's own and we posted too close to the same time.

Maybe it's own fic could grow. Ranma Saotome Senshi in Oz. or something like that.

You don't need to add glasses to the Oz Senshi, Patrick. The reason why Oscar Z. P.I.N.H.E.A.Diggs (The Wizard, who really hated his last seven initials) made everyone wear green glasses while in the city was to trick them into thinking that something about the city made everything in it green. The Scarecrow continued the tradition, Ozma disposed of it.

If you do use it in a modified image, it would be best to handle it like Mercury's visor.

Heh. "A Moon Rabbit in Oz" is a perfect title. It just screams for a story to be written around it. Too bad I'm no good as a writer....

I love the casting of Ranma as Tip/Ozma! :D

You do realize, though, that the idea of the Munchkins being midgets is from the movie, not the books, don't you? In canon, Munchkinland was just another country with its own variety of unusual people and creatures, but the humans were just as tall as everyone else. Plus, how would you reconcile Chibi-Usa's incredible pinkness with Munchkin Country's blue theme?

What about Sailor V's glasses the designs could be mixxed.

Too bad according to the web site all the copies of Wizzard of Oz for my entire library system are currently checked out lost or damaged. I really have to cure my ignorance in this area.

A number of Oz books are available online for free. They are in various electronic formats. This page from the International Oz fan club site has a list of some of them.

Thank you for the link. Now I have more on my reading list. I completely forgot to check Project Gutenberg. If someone could PM me a suggested reading order I would be greatfull but aside from that here's hoping this idea becomes a great fic. I can just see the TPW(Tendo Patriarch Waterworks) turning the Tinman into the largest chunk of rust in Multidimentional history.

Never read the OZ books. I've only watched the movies as well as the anime. But this smells like a nice fic idea.
And that's the bottom line 'cause Dumbledork said so.

That's a canon Oz error, Spokavriel: Tin doesn't rust. Iron rusts. Iron is often covered with tin to prevent rust. The weakness of tin is that prolonged exposure to temperatures below 13.2 Celsius makes tin turn grey and powdery and is easily rubbed away. This can spread across the entire object, causing it to fall apart. The phenomenon is known as tin pest, and has been known to make tin objects completely fall apart when exposed to the environment over the course of a cold winter.

D'oh!
Well then. That gives us an opening to leave the spore out. Mercury as the Munchikinland Senshi.

And Venus as Sailor Or.

I know I suggested Cologne as leader of the munchkins however thinking on the Ranma as Tip/Ozma how about Cologne as Mombi - the one who cursed Tip/Ozma.

Okay since the title is "A Moon Rabbit in OZ"

Is it a story of Usagi making a visit to OZ?

If so how does she get there?

("Luna, I don't think we're in Juuban anymore" -movie line)

Typhoon? Tsunami?
