Return - Subway- Reality mirroring Art mirroring...

Postby J. St.C. Patrick » Thu Jul 16, 2009 10:24 pm

Last month I was in Toronto, the scenic backdrop to Sunshine's magnum opus. For me, aside from visiting various relatives, it became almost a trip into the Twilight Zone.

I was riding the subway south from Finch Stn to Union Stn when the train I was on paused at Bloor Stn. I was somewhat suprised to see this scene which I took a photo of:

My first thought as a cold tingle went down my back was "had the Assembly of Man turned to advertising?" followed quickly by "Dear God, the Return is REAL!!!!!
There is a Sunshine Saotome!!!

but alas no she wasn't there and in reality the poster looks like this:
Image

and is only an ad for a movie District 9

sigh.

next, Saotome Samurai armor at the Royal Ontario Museum. And V-Rod and BMW outside the TD Tower (maybe)

Thanks for the comment DCG. Sorry for the delay in responding

I just out lined the people in black and used flood fill on either a low or high fill setting to get the shadow differences.

Yeah. It was a freaky trip at times for me. The "Ban Non Humans" Poster was just a start of "The Return" seeming to bleed into reality.

For instance, here's one of Sunny's brood who snuck into a picture I took of an old building that was built into a covered mall that connects to the TD Tower ( where in "The Return" WIC has its headquarters in downtown Toronto).

And a close up.

With the orange hair and somewhat garish dress it can only be Misako.

Just how big was that covered mall?

There are several answers to that question.

The attrium (the Allen Lambert Galleria) is about 5 stories tall, though the shops are on the ground level only.

The mall is about a block long at ground level going west/east from Bay Street to Yonge Street.
In the picture below the Picture of Misako was taken about where the yellow square in the centre is.

Apparently Misako had just stepped out of WIC's downtown HQ and was headed east.
(in the Misako picture above the TD tower is behind the camera and on the same side of the mall as the RBC Securites facade)

Below ground you can go for miles in what is known as the PATH way from Union Station at Front Street all the way north to Dundas street at the Eatons Centre

Well, while I was in Toronto I decide to take a tour of the Art Gallery of Ontario.
Naturally I took a picture of the facade of the building before I entered, not noticing that another member of the brood was wandering by...

Further close-up examination of the photo revealed the mysterious Murdock sitting in the shadows. (at least I think it's him)

It's subtle but how does it effect the pattern in the long run?

Good question.

Meanwhile, I spotted these two sightseers over in Queen's Park (North) admiring the equestrian statue of King Edward VII.

Thanks.

Across the street from the Eaton Centre in Toronto are a pair of old Paladio-Georgian/19th Century Banking Style Stone buildings.

Here is one of them with, it appears, another member of DarkStar's brood walking purposefully down Yonge Street.

Here she is Pretty in Pink:

And a close up of pinkified Nabik:

So there I was walking through the University of Toronto campus on an overcast and rainy June 17th, a convocation day for one or other of the colleges, when I stopped to take a picture of a cannon from the ruins of Fort Louisburg and a memorial to the 1989 Tianamen Square massacre. I didn't realize till later that the girl who had politely waited for me to take the picture was Nariko.

Nabiki looks nice but she seems to be more the age before her change. Why wasn't there a close up of the last image?

Sorry for the delay in responding. I've been moving in to a new residence and packing and unpacking have taken up a lot of my time. The close up of Nariko got lost in the shuffle.

Here she is:

one problem with the close up is that the way the picture was coloured makes her look like she has 5 o'clock shadow.
