Questions on SM Transformation phrase, and on Mistress 9

Postby Metroidvania » Sat Jul 15, 2006 9:11 pm

Not sure if this goes here, as it is all about SM, but it is research, so......
First: I know the Senshi have different transformation phrases, at least, I'm pretty sure they do, but it's been a looooong time since I've seen the dubbed anime, so I can't quite remember. And if they do, which do they use in the Death Busters arc, and right after Pharoah 90's destruction?
Second: Does Mistress 9 have any official attacks? If not, does she use any noteworthy moves besides the tentacle hair? I'm almost positive she can't, but just to be sure, can she use the Glaive canonically?
Third: Is Mistress 9's body her own? Is it Hotaru's? Is it a construct made out of magic/heart crystals/whatever? I recall a screenshot with her and Hotaru as different constructs, and Hotaru was dressed as a weird variant of a clown, (And why is that?), but I'm not sure.....
Fourth: I remember that Mistress 9 's from outer space, and she posesses Hotaru, but what does the black star on her forehead mean? I know the other witches have them located somewhere on them...does it signify her as part of the Death Busters, servant to Pharoah 90, something else, or nothing in particular? I think it signifies being part of the Death Busters (or the Bureau of Bad Behavior :x ,) but I'm not sure....
Fifth: I know how M9 dies from the battle inside Hotaru's mind when Hotaru wins in a battle of wills, but why does Pharoah 90 blast her and weaken her in the first place? Is it some sort of accident? Cosmic Karma?
Sixth, and Lastly: What kind of.....entity is Pharoah 90? My actual knowledge on him/it is unfortunately, negligible. I just can't _remember_ it from the dub. Of course, I was 7 at the time.......
Sorry for so many questions. I've looked for the info on several of the SM sites suggested in the SM part of the forum, and I've found a bit on eternalsailormoon, but I'm still lacking some of the info above.
Any help, corrections, or links would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for the assistance,

All answers here refer to the anime sub
Firstly; Sailor Moon using Moon Cosmic Power, then when she wants to transform to her next form using the grail or otherwise it's Moon Crisis Power. At this point she needs to transform with Moon Cosmic Power before using Moon Crisis Power. The other inner senshi use <Planet> Star Power.
Secondly; She has the power to make sort of a portal which she puts her hand through and grabs Sailor Moon and pulls her through. She also blasts everyone around her away when holding the grail, though it's not explained if she could normally do that without the grail or not.
Thirdly; At one point at least she transforms from Hotaru into Mistress Nine. A ring appears around her and goes upward around her as she does it. No explaination given. I'd assume it's still Hotaru's body, though transformed. My reasoning for that, is that when she's Mistress Nine, Hotaru rejects her and that it's not such a leap to think of transforming to different body, when Hotaru transformed to a baby when reborn.
Fourth; No explaination that I can see given. I'd assume it's just to mark her as one of them, that they all have it in some form or other. Perhaps the power leaving that mark on her, since she doesn't have it when she's controlling Hotaru's body.

Up to the end of S season, all the Inners use '(Planet) Star Power, Make Up'.
Second: Does Mistress 9 have any official attacks? If not, does she use any noteworthy moves besides the tentacle hair? I'm almost positive she can't, but just to be sure, can she use the Glaive canonically?

Why the hell would she be able to? That's Hotaru's power, not 9-eys.
No official attacks as such though - SM villains usually don't, they just get random plot-required 'dark powers'.

The clown was, I think, just a 'drama' thing - that was before 9 fully awoke, if my memory is correct.
The 'Mistress 9' body you're using as an avatar is Hotaru, just aged to 9's tastes and wearing a '9' expression. Mistress 9's actual body's something more like a virus - she's a totally alien being.
Tau Ceti, to be specific. The black star's significance was not, I believe, ever stated. Make it up if you want to.
Fifth: I know how M9 dies from the battle inside Hotaru's mind when Hotaru wins in a battle of wills, but why does Pharoah 90 blast her and weaken her in the first place? Is it some sort of accident? Cosmic Karma?

Same reason 9 killed Kaolinite after all her hard work: she was a being of no real consequence, so 'he' saw no need to exert himself in preserving her life.
And if you're seriously dumb enough to stand on the arrival site of a fricken Great Old One, you deserve whatever you get ;)
Sixth, and Lastly: What kind of.....entity is Pharoah 90? My actual knowledge on him/it is unfortunately, negligible. I just can't _remember_ it from the dub. Of course, I was 7 at the time.......

Freaky-powerful alien god, basically - think Lovecraft. (I nickname him a Great Old One just to clarify the idea) As for appearance: the only image I've ever seen of him was something like a ... planet with tentacles.
There is no problem that cannot be solved through the proper application of immense levels of firepower.

You took the words right out of my mouth, for the "what is he" question. He's shown in episode 125 as a planet with tentacles. Unfortunately I haven't got anything to take screenshots and since print screen just comes out as a black screen that doesn't help.
And Mistress Nine getting blasted... It even shot out in all directions before hitting her and she didn't decide to move out the way. Plus the whole world was supposed to be destroyed anyway and she wasn't getting off it somehow.

Thanks for the help, both of you.

I was just checking, geez

Cool, even more for me to make up as I go.

Means I'm gonna have to mess with her origins then.... :D

Thankfully, that's one part I _do_ have figured out.

Yeah, I've seen that pic. Just wondering if there was any more detailed info.
Up to the end of S season, all the Inners use '(Planet) Star Power, Make Up'.

And are the outers (at least Neptune and Uranus, as we never really see Pluto or Saturn) the same?
Thanks,

In one explanation I've read, all of the ultimate baddies from the various Sailor Moon arcs are essentially the same; they are "children" of Chaos, the final "boss" monster from the Shadow Galactica story arc. Each was an incarnation of Chaos' power, sent to stop the senshi in various ways. If you look at from that angle, Queen Metallia, Death Phantom, Pharoah 90, and Chaos were all essentially the same enemy: Chaos, whose fighting style was the embodiment of "if at first you don't succeed, try, try again".
I'm not certain, but I think Queen Nehellenia was the exception. She was around before Metallia, and was there for Princess Serenity's birth during the Silver Millennium.

On searching, so far i've found it's Pluto Planet Power. Still looking for Uranus and Neptune and you never do see Saturn's transformation. The only occurance is the PS1 fighting game where they have the video for it I think.

Sorry if you took that the wrong way. I'm usually extremely caustic even when I'm being friendly.

Meh, don't worry about it. 90% of the Ranma/SM fanfic out there relies on a rather twisted and non-canon Sailor Moon.
And are the outers (at least Neptune and Uranus, as we never really see Pluto or Saturn) the same?

They're 'Planet Power', but otherwise the same. Saturn was never observed, so you can either keep it the same, or come up with something unique for her.
And we've actually seen Pluto - I spotted her transforming in the S season movie :)

Ah, you beat me to it. ^^ Just found Uranus and Neptune's transformations which are as you say, also Planet Power.
You also see Pluto transform in episode 121.

Heey now, isn't that convenient....(hmm, Ranma anyone?)
Thanks for all the replies. They've helped immensely.

Pale Wolf mentioned above, the S movie. I've unfortunately never seen the S movie myself though and I can't remember what was in the R movie.
I think Chibi Moon's S transformation is the best, not because it's good, but because it's so...pink it makes me laugh. Though Sailor Moon's from Sailor Moon: Another Story (The SNES RPG) was amusing, how she just span round and became Sailor Moon. Visually Pluto's proberly is the best though, or one of.

The evil flower trying to take over earth, and the alien guy that had a thing for Mamoru.

I do not recall 9's attacks being given names.
9 never uses the glaive.

The body was Hotaru's.
9 needed to feed on "pure" heart crystals in order stay alive for reasons that are never really explained. I assume 9 needed to eat P.H.C.s because Hotaru was killing her somehow.
Hotaru thought the close were strange herself.
Look at what the whitches 5 wear. Deamens have strange taste in close.
Fourth: I remember that Mistress 9 's from outer space, and she posesses Hotaru, but what does the black star on her forehead mean? It is never really seems to be stated where 9 came from in the anime.
The black star is something all daemons have somewherwe on them selves. It seem to somehow make it so the the barer will not be attacked by daemons. if the star is damaged or destroyed the witch will be attacked by her minions. Other then that it seems to just be a symbol of the Death Busters.
Fifth: I know how M9 dies from the battle inside Hotaru's mind when Hotaru wins in a battle of wills, but why does Pharoah 90 blast her and weaken her in the first place? Is it some sort of accident? Cosmic Karma?
I think P90 was either trying to shoot Moon or digging into the Earth.

P90 looked like a giant single celled life form to me.

Actually, the Witches 5 and Kaolinite were human.

A mystical IFF, in other words?
