So... So... So NOSTALGIC! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2NrrHC07Tmc
Do want.

Also, anyone knows how the simulated stuff is officially called? From my childhood I remember the set was simply named "constructor".

Still use one screwdriver from that box.

Also, finally there are videos of that rare, rare game, WarCraft 2000.
It's like WarCraft 2 but with nukes.
I played it once, lamented its unfinishedness but I've lost the CD long ago. :(

Could also be Erector. That was a US brand for a long time. Meccano owns it now, Wikipedia says.

When I had one of those sets, back in the 1950s, it was called "Erector". There were also Lego sets, but they were made of a hard and brittle plastic. And don't forget the Lincoln Logs!

Thanks :) What I remember, that Meccano 2 set feels painfully familiar. But Erector has familiar pieces too.

Anyways, they were all sold as "konstruktor", the same name used for Lego. You had to use extra sentences to clarify which konstruktor you referred to.

Huh, i had Meccano myself, and LOTS of Lego.

Never ever heard of Erector though.

Brittle? Not the original then? Because Lego is halfway to indestructible, or at least that's what it feels like when you accidentally stepped on a piece.
Definitely not the lego that feels like it breaks, your foot on the other hand... *ouch*

I swear, you could uparmour a battleship with the original Lego bricks. Hmm… maybe that is why the Danish Navy downsized? They figured they’d just go to Billund and build themselves a fleet if the need arose?

Uparmor a battleship with Lego you say? I'll just leave this here then: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H3VEKNx2_iE

Aside: Here — http://www.girdersandgears.com/autech.html — is an article showing Russian Meccano-style Konstruktor sets in their packaging.

Okay, I have very probably put this on here before, but what has to be the world’s most computerised portable shrine is still worth a look anew. Wonder if it still exists over in the Tokyo Akihabara…

This, from what I have read, was back in 2009. The mikoshi (portable shrine) was built and carried by various cosplayers (including the meido, or cosplay-maids) from the bits and pieces that Akihabara is famous for. You did notice all the electronic stuff, games and anime things? Their goal was to chase away the demons of bad economy. The Akiba looks like it’s doing allright so I suppose it worked.

Anyway, try google("akihabara" "otaku" "mikoshi") for more. Incidentally, there is a Shinto shrine there that sells protective charms for one’s computer and phone. Probably for the game console, too.

Ah, ok then i can at least understand it. :P

My ability to read kanji and kana are absolute zero, so very difficult to get anything from the video description.

Same here. At least K-Meleon lets me Alt-t, t, j to get a Giggle Translation of moon runes so I’m not totally ‘stuck on a tide skerry’.
