Yeah, they still wrote everything in assembler back then. The first higher programming languages were only just appearing. Now, whether to thank or blame RADM Hopper for that is a wholly different Ella. Maye even Salmon-Ella.

FTR, Salmon-Ella was a real human, and cooked at a salmon anglers’ hotel. There are no records of anyone having ever got sick from her cooking, except maybe from overeating…

In Alaska, there is a Curtis C-46 transport named Salmon Ella. You can find a picture here.

And when I'm talking SCA trash, I sometimes mention Salmonella the Fishwife.

Wow, it's amazing how relevant and insightful some of this still is today. The introduction should probably be read by at least half the movie companies of today.

The Naval Postgraduate School is famous for lots of things, including having on staff one Gary Kildall, same guy as wrote the CP/M operating system for 8080 and Z80 micros, and founded Intergalactic Digital Research (later just Digital Research).

https://archive.org/details/microcomputersol00kern (A Microcomputer Solution to Maneuvering Board Problems) is one of several theses he was thesis advisor to. In addition, it features CORDIC routines, Intel 4004 assembly code, and Kildall listed as Chief Scrounger.

Tales of drinking and recipes for drinks. I remain uncertain on the quality of some of these drinks.

That’s illumination as that in manuscripts, not in lighting.

http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/57630 — “Spons’ Household Manual” by E. and F. N. Spon (1894)
A job lot of stuff on setting up and managing a household. Might still be of use for planning that ‘hut’ near Lake Wayoutthere.

And as a bonus, this link…

… will rustle up a large bunch of engineering books that just might turn out to be of interest to someone.

So I was dipping into the first of five books in the “Workshop Receipts” series and ended up wondering: ‘What the hex is regulus of antimony?’

Here is an answer: http://www.iub.edu/~cedr/omeka-2.5/exhibits/show/regulusnewton

http://www.city.minato.tokyo.jp/kuse/koho/minatomonthly/index.html — Minato Monthly is a small magazine rather than a book, and has no news items on Sailor Moon; but there are bits on preparedness against earthquakes, heatstrokes and such.
