Love theme of Romeo and Juliet Overture

Postby Crescent Pulsar S » Wed Nov 26, 2014 10:02 pm

You know that love-of-first-sight music that's used in a bunch of movies and cartoons? Is there a specific name for that part of the song, or would mentioning it be enough for most to assume that's the part of the song being played without hearing it?

Please don't callit a song :-(

I'm curious exactly what you're asking though. Specific name? Not really. It's essentially the second subject of a sonata form, but it's really pretty boradly in that form. But even Wikipedia calls it the "love theme" (which it is, granted, as that's what the music represents).

What I'm asking is if they have a particular name for it, since it's one of those reused things that come up in various movies and cartoons for the same kind of thing. Y'know, like how they have certain names for stock sound-effects, like the Wilhelm scream.

Often used? Really? I can't remember it at all. Now if you're looking for classical pieces that you often find in cartoons or movies here are some:

Peer Gynt Suite - Morning Mood (Edvard Grieg)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-rh8gMvzPw0

William Tell Overture (Gioachino Rossini)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7O91GDWGPU

Entry of the Gladiators (Julius Fucik)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_B0CyOAO8y0

Orpheus in the Underworld - Infernal Galop (Jacques Offenbach)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Diu2N8TGKA
And that's the bottom line 'cause Dumbledork said so.

I do seem to remember it being rather common in Looney Tunes and other things. But certainly not something you'd know by name.

Indeed. It´s reasonably well known for sure, but definitely not what i would automatically associate that instantly to something.

I would certainly call it pretty well used. Even The Sims (the original) uses it.
