1) Posting Messages
Spam Posting
A) Stay on topic. Spam is not allowed. Off topic posts in the C&C section will be punished most harshly.
B) Spamville is the only exception. This is the part of the forum where free-form posting is permitted, if it is the intention of the thread author for it to become a free-form roleplaying topic. See the Spamville rules in Section 2 for more information.
Message Posting
C) Do not argue with administrators or moderators via public posting. If you have a disagreement or grievance due to a ruling made in a thread, take it to Private Messages, and always talk to the person who made the ruling first. Do not try to circumvent the ruling by appealing to another administrator or moderator. The administration consults with each other in such cases.
D) Posts announcing a story update need to include the title, writer, and a link to the story.
1) A writer is limited to one post every three days containing updates on own fic(s) (note this is for update threads only, *not* for threads where C&C or fanart or Outlines and Scenes are being posted. You can post new material as often as you like.).
E) There is a difference between flames and critical commentary. Reviewers remember not to flame, and writers remember that you are asking for C&C and not all of it will be positive.
Flaming is not permitted in this forum. Arguments and debates should be kept civil and respectful of the other person's feelings and opinions. Argue with verifiable facts from sources that can be shown to other forum members. Opinions should be clearly stated as such. If you find yourself deadlocked in an argument, then it's time to end the conversation. Don't beat a dead horse, as the saying goes.
Rule of thumb: In this forum, a flame is considered to be a derogatory comment aimed deliberately at another member. An angry comment which contains the words "you" and "your" is considered directed. So is an angry comment that compares oneself to another member and denigrates that member.
1) Given the importance of the C&C* section, forum members are free petition the staff with potential Rule 1-E violations on their threads. Especially, but not limited to, repeated actions of a given user. Even if no single individual post raises to a Rule 1-E violation, if a case can be made of repeated ad hominem comments, off topic statements, general distraction or discord, or flames that show a pattern of abusive behavior then the given user can be prohibited from commenting on said writer's posts in C&C*. Once informed of the prohibition, the given user will be on notice and any violations will be treated as a breach of Rules 1-E.
*This applies to threads in C&C, Outlines and Scenes, and Fanart created by the writer in question.
F) Nested quotes are not allowed. This is when you are quoting the quotes of someone else's quotes.
G) Standards of civility, common sense, and coherence are expected. This is connected to rule 1-E, but applies to all posting. Moderate profanity is acceptable, if the context of the dialog calls for it. Excessive or inappropriate use of profanity may be grounds for a warning or tempban. This will be judged by Fukufics staff on a case-by-case basis.
H) In accordance with civility, explicit content such as nudity in images is not allowed. As of now fiction that are Lemon or Explicitly sexual will not be allowed to be linked too. This site is to be Work-Safe.
Images
I) Signature images should be under 125 pixels high by 425 pixels wide of image size and 100kb of file size. Avatars are limited to 225 (height) by 140 (width) in size. and 100kb of file size. Animated avatars are allowed, but annoying ones will be subject to change. Animated avatars must meet the same criteria as non-animated avatars.
Signatures may have multiple separate images, but all images must fit within an area of 350 pixels width and 100 pixels height, and their combined file sizes may not exceed 100kb. Those limits include any spaces between the images.
It is not permitted to post avatar or signature images related to sex, race, religion or politics that might be offensive to other members. The rule of thumb is that if the image makes you wonder if it would be acceptable, it isn't.
It is not permitted to display images by directly linking to ones that are on another web site, unless that site is a specialty image server or is owned by the person posting the image. That's because it uses up the bandwidth of sites the people seeing the picture never visit, which often can cost money for the site owners.
J) There are no current limits on images in the body of a message, but use common sense and discretion. Images should not be so large that they cause a horizontal scroll bar to appear in a desktop set to 800 x 600. Nor should the file sizes be so large that they cause a significant increase in page loading time for 56k modem users.
Please note that this applies to large text size as well. If a line of text using a large font size causes the window to overflow and causes a horizontal scroll bar to appear, it should be set to a lower font size.
Thread Titles
K) When creating a thread, the title should be clear and explain the content so that readers understand what the topic will be.
Stories posted in the C&C folder should have thread titles consisting of the title of the story and the chapter title and number, if any. When asking for assistance in the Fic Search folder, the title of the thread should contain a very short summary of what is being searched for. For examples, go to the end of this page.
Forum Necromancy
L) Before you post a reply to a thread, check the date to see if it's long dead and/or of no further interest. Rule of thumb: If there are no replies in over a month, the thread should be considered inactive.
If you choose to revive it, be sure that your reply has relevant content to add that warrants reactivating the discussion.
Posting Stories
M) Stories and art posted in this forum must be either submitted by the writer, or with the writer's verifiable permission. Stories which contain material plagiarized from another author's work are prohibited. It is permitted to post links to stories without author permission, as long as the format listed in rule 1-D is followed. Threads relating to stories must follow rule 1-K.
N) C&C is for the posting of Entire Chapters that are ready for Commentary or Reading. The posting of individual scenes is what the Outlines and Scenes section is for.
2) Spamville
Spamville is the section of the forum where free-form roleplay is both permitted and encouraged. Note that topics in spamville are automatically pruned after 7 weeks of inactivity and threads are split after reaching 50 pages in length.
A) If the topic is not intended to have free-form roleplay in it, it must be posted in the most appropriate non-spam folder.
B) "Arguing" or "fighting" with other forum members as part of roleplay is perfectly acceptable, unless it spills over into flames meant to personally insult other members.
C) Rules 1-C, 1-F, 1-G, 1-H, 1-L, and 4-B apply to Spamville just as much as any other part of this forum.
3) User Titles
A) Most forum avatar titles are earned by the number of posts one creates. There are a few special titles which are awarded. These are divided into two classes. One type is permanent and given as awards for winning specific contests, such as writing contests.
The other type changes quarterly and is awarded for general community help in such areas as C&C, fan art, research, and other topics of interest to the forum. This type is still being fleshed out Here.
4) General
A) If you don't know if something is okay, send a private message to an admin or moderator and ask about it before posting. If you do not get a response in a timely manner please consult with another forum staffer.
B) Any attempt to circumvent a punishment, via the use of sock puppet accounts or other means will result in a permanent ban.
C) This forum is and will remain advertisement-free unless special permission is granted. Links to eBay or any other auction site, online stores, or sites which require payment to enter, are advertisements, and will be deleted. Note that links to illustrations on such sites are allowed, if the link is specifically to show the image as part of a forum message and not to generate a sale.
Members who violate this rule will be considered for possible banning, based on whether the violation is interpreted as deliberate or accidental.
D) Topics complaining about the services at fanfiction.net are banned from this forum. Fanfiction.net services stop working and then get fixed on a weekly basis. Complaining about them does not solve anything, and is a waste of time and space. Leave them alone long enough, and they get fixed. If you really want to do something about a problem there, contact the fanfiction.net administration.
It is permitted to ask questions about problems you may be having with fanfiction.net, such as how to use a particular site function or what to do if you cannot connect with the site even though it's operating normally. The key is that it must be a problem on your end, which advice from fukufics forum members can be reasonably expected to solve.
5) Examples of the Rules
Rule 1-F
UserA wrote:UserB wrote:There is snow in Iowa
You're wrong, that never happened
This is a nested quote and it is against the rules. They tend to build up if not kept in check.
UserA wrote:"There is snow in Iowa"
-UserB
You're wrong, that never happened
Or
UserA wrote:There is snow in Iowa
UserB wrote:You're wrong, that never happened
These two methods are fine. As long as the quote and /quote tags are not nested, multiple quotes are permitted.
Rule 1-G
Directing profanity at other forum members as a personal attack (flaming) is prohibited. Profanity which dominates a sentence (such as "Why the !!!! is this !!!!ing thing even being written? It's pure !!!!") is prohibited. Occasional profanity which is merely intended to "spice up" a sentence is permitted (such as "Damn it, I didn't mean to do that!).
Rule 1-K
Bad: "Looking for Fic"
Good: "Fic where Ranma meets Shampoo and Ukyou at the same time"
Bad: "My new Story"
Good: "Windborne ch2 by Sunshine Temple"
Bad: "Author Search"
Good: "What happened to DCG?"
Bad: "Not sure where this should go"
Good: PM a mod and ask where your thread should go.
Rule 1-L
Threads that probably should not be revived: Fic Searches (unless requested fic is finally found), Introductions, Spamville, or Current Event threads.
Threads that can be revived anytime: Fic Research, Canon vs. Fanon debates, Fic Recommendations, and C&C.
