I can think of one
Ranma No More by Dani Yanega
http://ladycosmos.anifics.com/ranma/rnm.html
It is an alternate reality fic.
Other authors like Jack Staik and Lady Tesser.

Now there's a pair of authors that I haven't read a fic from in years...ne1 know where some of them are hosted?

Also, I'm suprised that noone has really mentioned any of the classic lemon Ranma fics like the slightly disturbing "Shikima Interface" by T.H. Tiger.

Classic Lemon Ranma fics should probably be a separate thread.

Though I am surprised the weren't mentioned sooner.

Jack Staik and Lady Tesser:

http://web.archive.org/web/200406072217 ... /otaku.htm

last archive Wayback has of their page. From Jun 07, 2004. Though the last change Wayback detected was between Jun 18, 2002 and Jan 20, 2003.
Unless I say otherwise, if I'm discussing Ranma canon, I'm talking about the MANGA.

I saw a few people mention the Just Won't Die series but i don't think I've seen a link yet.

Great series. There's always some twist at the end that keeps you on your comp reading it late, late into the night....
Pretty lengthy but it's worth reading the whole thing.
(My personal favorites are Just Won't Die 6 and Just Won't Die Asuka)

Even if it's based more on the anime than the manga Heart of Glass was a good read if you really wanted to go deep into Ryoga's psyche.

Relentless is another good grim one.

Even though I generally don't like "Ranma is a girl" fictions, I thought that newRanma was a nice read, just on the basis that it showed the deep

Wheel of Fire definately has it's good points at first, but it does seem to go off track after a while.

But it would appear that nobody mentioned any of Richard Lawson's fiction. Out of anyone, I would imagine Lawson-sama to be mentioned in a Ranma Fanfiction Classic List.

Cinders by KaraOhki was an excellent fic that stuck in my mind.

Girl Days, of Course.

The Bitter End.

Iris.

Quantum Destinies.

Bliss.

Hearts of Ice, finished or not. HoI was *THE* Ranma fanfic for a good four or five years in the 90's.

Heir to the Empire is awesome beyond my ability to convey, casting Ranma as the reincarnated Queen Serenity (of Sailor Moon fame).

Wild Horses and Pokegirls took the "pokegirls" concept from the Addventure and ran with it; now there's a massive Yahoo group expanding on the universe he created. Beware the lemony content.
...I seem to be having some trouble finding this one. I'll post the link when I find it.

A Tale of Two Wallets was what really got me into Ranma fanfiction. The appearance of the Senshi later on doesn't hurt, either. :D

The Wild Horse Thesis has already been mentioned but it's worth saying it again; this series rocks.

1/2 a Neko Moon is another really good Sailor Moon crossover; even though it seems to have been abandoned, chapter 1 wraps things up nicely enough that it works as a one-shot, leaving the reader to imagine for him/herself how Ranma and the Senshi will handle the Fiancee Brigade, Ryoga, and the rest.

Never read A Tale of Two Wallets. It's about the ONLY long fic out there that I fear to touch. I like Nabs and all but I'm more of an Akane fan. Just Won't Die took the cake for me, especially with the implied Asuka pairing throughout seventy percent of the fic.

Asuka is probably the best female character out there in my oppinion. Save for the Snow lady from HoI.

Kaoru said it. Lawson's stuff. Some of the best writing out there. Damn, i haven't looked at his stuff since forever. Not sure if I ever finished Thy Inward Love but I know Thy Outward Part was in my top five for ages.

Anything By Michael Fetter ruled. Period there. (Except for The (damn!) Juuban Incident!) Recently stumbled across an Eva cross by him. Was in-cre-di-ble. I imensely enjoyed it except for the seemingly implausible ending. Main girl character (Ranma's female form) is litterally God's Girlfriend. So why.. well... I'd be spoilin the story.

More Than Half

-EDIT-

While I'm thinking about it, there's another fic that I wanted to bring up. Not sure if it really fits in the 'classics' category but it was damn good if incomplete.

It was a Sailor Moon Cross. Mars was the main character, bar Ranma of course. It had a story that took place in the present day and then a back story that took place in the Silver Millenium with a Past form of Ranma which was honestly about the best part of the story. I can't remember the name of it though.

Anyway, that was probably one of the best SM crosses i've ever read and was what got me into SM crosses in the first place. From there of course I went to Fire's fics. Heh.

Unless I missed it, one that's not been mentioned would have to be;

"Accending Changes" by Ridgewolf.
http://www.geocities.com/rei671/ranma3.html

I consider it a classic at least.

Just tossing up titles isn't likely to get people to read them. We all have different tastes. Explain what you like about a story. Hell, a decent summary would be nice.

Well, since this topic seems to be passably alive, and the recommendations are generally good, I don't feel too bad about tacking a couple things on.

First off, I'm surprised no one mentioned Lesbian 1/2 by Donny Cheng, though it is rather hard to find. The fic is pretty much a hilarious take on the cliche that every anime female is a lesbian, including in this case Ranma. I'll admit it goes on a bit long (though getting through chapter 9 is definitely worth it) but the fic is pretty much comic gold.

And, while it isn't finished (but hopefully isn't dead) Hikari no Daija by Miriani and Andrew Norris is arguably the best take on Ranma meets the Harry Potter universe in that Ranma features prominently without completely destroying the Potterverse. On the subject of HP crosses, Brothers United by Genhoss is also quite good, with Ranma playing the role of Harry's newly found older brother. Unlike most Ranma/HP fics, Ranma still has his general badass attitude in that one.

I also personally love A New Awakening by Jerry Unipeg and Dani Yanega, but it is far enough outside the Ranma-verse that it might not be a great pick for die hard people. Ranko in the story is next to nothing like Ranma, but its a great read for a fairy Ranma story.

Most of the others I'd mention were already listed, but the lack of Lesbian 1/2 forced me to post, it's just that important.

reading all of these makes me sad in a bittersweet kind of way. I remember growing up with these fanfic author and rarely encounter the same quality and complexities that was written then then now. Ironically, most authors of old shunned FF.Net for being a cesspool yet it is there that all their works could be be remembered. If someone were to take all of the stories of old and posted it on FF.net then it would never disappear or be lost to time. I myself was skeptical about FF.net duration and yet it has stood strong for over 12 years now. I do have all if not most of these authors stories saved to my hard drives the only thing I am actually missing are some of the continuation of these stories that have been updated.
