The new Flintstones cartoon is looking great, huh?

"Video unavailable

Guess they don't want people to watch it.

Which doesn't really bode well for the cartoon's quality.

Seems the animation style drops to more simplistic nowadays. Either that, or they make the jump to 3D rendering.

But Neko, when they discussed Mickey Mouse, they left out the awesomest Mickey of them all: back in the day, when Mickey was a serious detective, chasing down the Phantom Blot. In pants, a hat, and a trenchcoat, no less!

First I've ever heard of that storyline. Then again, I'm not keeping up with cartoons that much (unless they're anime, and only then still specific series).

I'm cheating, really. Those stories happened way back when I was a kid. That was the late forties / early fifties. So it's not keeping up, it's remembering.

I have lots of Donald Duck comics from mostly the 70s to 90s that include some of those. Even with the constant influx of new material, they tended to rerun lots of stuff over every 20 years or so. I even maintained a subscription up until early 2000s, but overall quality had dropped too much by then so no longer worth it. Far too much "demographical targeting" and stratification.

Still getting some whenever i see albums with stories by Carl Barks or especially Don Rosa. They made STORIES, not glorified attempts at pleasing specific groups.

I never thought they'd get somebody that could replace Carl Barks - but Don Rosa does a very good job. Have you read The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck? Lovely! Enjoyed the parts with Teddy Roosevelt.

Yup yup, Don Rosa is easily the best, even if he thinks he's just a "pale imitation" of Barks as he says it.

A few years ago, I read this post elsewhere on the Internet that basically asked: "Who would you rather try to steal from, Scrooge McDuck or a dragon?" The majority of people who responded picked the dragon.

Smaug over a duck...

One can roast you, you can roast the other... Hmm... Tough choice.
