I can't seem to find too many particulars about this term, and how exactly -- or how much -- it was used in relation to the big bang theory. It seems to refer to the gravitational singularity, but which came first as these ideas were developed? I mean, doesn't "gravitational singularity" suffice?

Not sure i had heard "cosmic egg" before. But i expect it´s one of those "popular science" rephrasings to make it sound simpler.
