I think the title of "craziest" goes to the giant church organ where the pipes were cannons...
Now, if i could just remember what the tv-series was where i saw it...
I know it was something weird, but it´s 25-35 years ago so i´ve totally forgotten the context and everything.

The marble machine is neat, but it´s basically a very advanced music box and multiinstrument combined, so i think i might call it impressive, but not really crazy.

A flock of birds just minding their own business. A guy walking home decides to make their presence as over-dramatic as he can. Completely out of nowhere and completely random, and it's hilarious.

If you're prepared to deal with loads of swearing and a sideways camera, then don't dally any further.

“Night Mail” is a 1936 film and one of the best documentaries ever.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pQJzZDIQTs — Part 2
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=902G8widi00 — Part 3

“Night Mail” is also a poem written for the film by W. H. Auden. The first four lines follow:

This is the Night Mail crossing the border,
Bringing the cheque and the postal order,
Letters for the rich, letters for the poor,
The shop at the corner and the girl next door.

The irony is that THAT kind of mail operation worked much faster than what exists today.

Really annoying that when i was a kid, mail was delivered twice per day and you could pay slightly extra to get it delivered on saturdays, or make sure it was delivered overnight.
Nowadays, hah! That kind of work is considered far too expensive, total automation is the big thing instead. But they keep very quiet about speed of delivery.

BTW, my dad and eldest brother have both done extra parttime work on mailtrains like that.

Unfortunately, one of the biggest drivers for that is that there's this insane drive to get rid of the government-owned postal service. Here in the US, Congress passed a law 10 years ago to require that the US Postal Service prefund it's retiree benefits 70 years out, creating a self-fulfilling prophecy that the USPS is "losing" money. The irony is that both UPS and FedEx (who certain US politicians see as "better" than the USPS) have transshipping agreements with the USPS.

Heh, that´s not very nice.

Sadly there have been similar drives here as well, and even if they didn´t go to that kind of deviousness, the amount of damage done by such idiocies is going to be felt for decades at least.

The irony is that both UPS and FedEx (who certain US politicians see as "better" than the USPS) have transshipping agreements with the USPS.
