In any case... As you said, you have a show where the girls outnumber the guys probably close to 10 to 1... and was originally aimed at girls of around age 11 and below (not that other demographics, such as myself, cannot watch, but it will not be geared for them). So of course the girls view would win... besides, these girls are neither adults, nor realists... this is a rose colored romantic and black and white view of the world....
Those with a pessimistic, cynical, ironic, or realistic bent will take a far darker view of the series, their actions, and everything in between. Including dating scenarios.
Personally, I disliked they dropped the fact Mamoru was dating Rei when she was all but dumped for Usagi, especially when Usagi and Mamoru hated each others guts until she learned of his alter ego. I came away from that blowup disliking this for all three characters.
It makes Usagi to me come across as shallow and petty, Mamoru as heartless, and Rei as urging the romatic view...
