Blunder? Clanger? Very difficult, anyway...

Postby Té Rowan » Sun Apr 14, 2013 2:52 pm

You may well have read some fanfic in which Ranma is fighting someone on the top of a train in Nerima (or almost anywhere in Tokyo, for that matter). It'll be safe to say that the author assumed Tokyo's trains to be diesels. Wrong. Most of them are electrics fed 1500V DC via overhead catenaries. The Shinkansen trains, I believe, are the main exception, as they need a 25kV AC feed.

Very likely there are other 'too-too impossible' things about.

Right or wrong., accurate or not... we have seen Ranma and Genma at least ride on top of trains. I believe there was a flashback where he was tied to a train as well...

I have seen Ranma/Konatsu/Setsuna fight a demon on top of a train in a Hogwarts multicross... Though that was not a Japanese train.

More often, I see Ranma and others fight at a train *station*, not so much on a train. I can think of multiple such fights, like in On a Clear Day you Can See forever, or Chaos and Crystal Tokyo.

This reminds me of how many times I've seen the furo on the second floor, rather than the ground floor.

Ranma rides on the outside of trains on occasion but it isn't always the top as this picture shows:

The total weight of a small furo with water and someone soaking will likely be in the 400-600 kg range.

I´ve seen that in real pics so apparently it´s not unheard of at least.

But where it is should be known in the Tendo's house. XD

I mean, sure, it's possible for a furo to be above the ground floor, but -- aside from getting it wrong -- what reason could there be to change it, that could affect a story in any kind of relevant or appreciable way? Why make something like that different for the sake of difference? XD;;

You guys are not taking into account that the Tendo floor plan is at least somewhat mutable...

It is the same as with the Masaki house in Tenchi Muyo.

It not only has a changing floor plan between continuities, it changes within continuities...

I once did a detailed cross examination on both Tenchi house (multiple canon crossexam) and a detailed analysis of the Tendo home at differing points in manga... Both change in some inexplicable ways... (and the Tenchi one took into account the destruction of the house in the OAV and the rebuild)

I can forgive a person moving room locations when room doors, windows, and structural members change in a series...
