Everything has its end.
Better stop than run out of steam and let the film quality decay.

We will never forget.

Two parts shut down and those were the divisions where people were still employed using hand drawn methods in their work. Sad to see them go.

It´s a pity, but at the same time i´m not really surprised.

Much of their works were effectively aimed "too high", trying to be too grand, too artistic, so much that they lost a lot of interest from average potential viewers.

Like trying to have a world famous artist capture your vacation in paintings rather than just use a camera. They do excellent work, but it´s often overkill in at least one way.

IF Studio Ghibli has truly closed down -- and there have also been comments to the effect of "he's not dead, he's only sleeping" -- perhaps they'll release Mei and the Kittenbus, and other small goodies.
