Fanon you like?

What sorts of tropes/characterizations/plots do you all like that aren't canon?


Personally, if it's set up and well-justified, I can suspend disbelief or forget about the canon/fanon divide, at least until the story ends. This goes double for ideas that open up the story or take things in new directions.

In general, I enjoy when people throw in a Martial Arts and Crafts skill that we never got in the serie, especially ones that work well like Ballroom Dancing.

In more humorous stories, I like Nabiki having access to a ridiculous amount of money, henchmen, and information, particularly if it serves the goal of fleecing and humiliating Ranma as much as possible.

Thoughts? Any fanon stuff that you like because it's an amusing take or it serves the story it appears in well?

Kaguya (of Touhou) the neet. Eirin the sadist. Reisen the victim. Tewi the troll. Basically the entire characterization of Inaba of Moon/Earth.

I like fanon that makes more sense than canon -- especially if it's carried to extremes. Example: Ryoga making a good living in building demolition.

I don't mind fanon that helps explain things not in canon.

I do use stuff like Ki claws and the fact that Ryoga teleports because they can fit into canon without contradicting things.

As long as it can't be contradicted in canon I accept it well.

The ones I like seeing pop up again and again are expansions of the amazons as long as they aren't the extreme uber village people. That and reincarnations from other series. Like Inuyasha.

The ones that piss me off are the ones that just make continuity errors. Like Ukyo's father forcing her on the engagement.

I kinda like the stories where Sailor Pluto makes use of the gates of time as an entertainment center so she can spy on the past and has a near infinite selection of voyeuristic porn due to being able to see any time anyone in all of the world's history procreated. Its fun seeing versions of her that would exploit that.

another fannon thing I like is where Jusenkyo curses stick with the soul. So even when Ranma reincarnates its still as whatever he reincarnates as that turns into a girl with cold water and back with hot.

There is a lot of fanon that I like. So long as it doesn't flat out contradict the source material I'm fine with it or is explained in a reasonable way such as it being a change required by the plot. Though I am most annoyed when people mistake fanon for canon such as having Harry Potter werewolves being susceptible to silver when the books make a point to mention Remus touching silver objects.

I'd list some particular bits of fanon I like but I'm drawing a blank at the moment while trying to think of a specific fanon element that I particularly enjoy.
