Things you really don't care for in fan-fiction

Try to make sure that new topics here actually couldn't actually go somewhere else.

That I also think "ara" sounds cuter has nothing to do with it. Nope. <_<;

Oh, hey, no one's mentioned character-bashing yet. Maybe that's because it's so expected? XD

There are SO MANY fanfics that would be SOOOOO much better if the so called authors could cut out the stupid amount of bashing. Narutoverse is by far the worst i´ve seen when it comes to character bashing. And sometimes it can get outright silly.

Another thing I don't care for is using Ranko for female Ranma as a way to know Ranma is currently female.

Ranma used many aliases as a girl, sticking to that one to call his girl side is just annoying. Sure, when Ranma is actually using the alias it makes sense but when Ranma isn't calling her Ranko doesn't make sense.
"Oh no! What haz happened? As you cats would say." Akane asked, horrified.

"Cats do not speak that way!" Luna yelled.

Very true. Ranma-chan works at least a little better even if it also has some degree of mismatch.

I don't mind it, if it makes sense. Calling out Genma and getting back at him makes sense since Ranma is pissed at him, and KASUMI called him out once.

Others, not so much. Except happy.

Uncertain where Akane bashing makes sense. Well... I guess Akane bashing things makes some sense. :)

It is a little easier to justify based on the anime over manga but... still... it is literally amazing how often Akane just belts Ranma to another prefecture seemingly on a whim. In all sources of Ranma canon there is always cause and effect. Is physical violence the way to respond to verbal abuse? No. But it is common for Shonen manga 'jealous girlfriends' to do things to remind their boyfriends of certain... obligations and commitments.

Also, Akane does not arbitrarily decide to start 'malleting' Ranma, as she does at the beginning of many stories where Ranma finally decides he/she's had enough in the first chapter. :(

Don't forget... virtually everyone else brings out a mallet in the course of the manga.

All that said, I still feel well thought out stories like "The Bitter End" are interesting in that they provide asymptotes to frame the Akane hyperbola (or is that hyperoble?)

The thing about character bashing for me is that if I read enough fics bashing a certain character such as Akane or Nabiki, then I start to really hate them so to relax myself I need to read a story such as do it in which Ranma gets his gruesome revenge against the one who wronged him, I can then chuckle insanely and cry out "Yes that B#*~h Nabiki finally has whats coming to her. Then im all calm and can read a story featuring a nice Nabiki and not be fantasizing all the ways she can be killed while reading. Man bashing really gets my anger flowing at the bashed character.

The thing that surprises me is the LACK of Nabiki bashing. There are not really many fics bashing her as opposed to Akane who is a constant vitcim. Strange since Nabiki is the biggest bitch in the series.
And that's the bottom line 'cause Dumbledork said so.

One way to look at this as anime vs manga again. In the english dub, Angela Costain does a great job of portraying Nabiki's sarcasm. She is sort of the greek chorus in the anime. The 'smart' observer who sees things others in the story don't. She never really falls to the depths she does in the manga either. By the end of the manga she is almost irretrievably dark.

Additionally, who else is the 'smart' one in the series writers might relate to? It is easier in SM, where the 'smart one' is also the most innocent.

Nabiki isn't really all that smart. She's just an opportunist who wants to make a quick buck without thinking about the consequences.

Agreed, but who else in that cast really is?

Someone who gets away with the kinds of things that Nabiki has done, and as many times as she's done them, has to mean that she's more likely to have more intelligence than luck to avoid the consequences, even if what she does seems really risky and/or stupid to us.

And if being a sociopath most of the time is "dark," well, then I guess she is. :P

Yep, the anime and fan translations help set the stage for who to hate the most.

Nabiki was called by Rumiko as the evilest character in her series, yet is funny because she gets away with everything. O_o

Akane has faults, but uses the mallet 3 times in the anime, including the movies. What's up with saying she uses it ALL the time?!!

I think the frequency of her methods of attack are something like this:

Mallet ≈ shinai < whatever happens to be handy < punch ≈ kick.

Yep. That is about right.

Except in fandumb.

I don't really care for "faking x the whole time" stories. Those seem really cruel. Like Akane loves Ryoga the whole time and both playing Ranma for suckers until they lock him and laugh. Or "AU post manga except Akane didn't care for Ranma" NO! that is a big difference that would affect SO much that you can't just do that! Aaarrrggggg!!!

Those are just bad writing >99% of the time.

I think i´ve read exactly one that managed to make sense out of such a situation. Was a crossover with something where Akane by Ranma start was already a secret agent for something(from the crossover). The author managed to make it a very classic style Ranma type of mess... Akane didn´t really want to fake anything and was getting ready to climb the walls in frustration quite soon, Ranma got a bit more smitten by her from the start because of it, Nabiki got jealous... Most amusing.

Fine, I'll just say it, bad writing is something i don't care for in fanfiction.

Also I don't care for making someone be very ooc just to pair someone else with whoever the ooc was with.
