There are any schools for boys in Mahora Academy? The girls in the train and Konoka thought Negi mistook the station to the elementary schools, if they admit boys like primary students I don't reason to stop the next grades. Beside in the first scenes I noted some boys between the running students. I didn't finish to read the manga and I wanted to be sure of it.

I was trying to imagine possible Ryoga and Ranma's classmates for a fic where they are Mahora students at the time of the bread feud. What would you use? OCs or characters from other series? They would be a sort glorified cameos, with the simple role of filling the classroom and giving a personality to it. In the case of crossover characters they should come from series who don't clash with the Negima setting and without powerful skills which could steal the spotlight to the real protagonists.

Either OCs or borrowed works. The feeling i get is that readers overall like it better with borrowed characters. Probably not enough that you should decide based on that though.

Also, just because you borrow a character from elsewhere, it doesn´t have to be EXACTLY that character, so if it´s overpowered for the setting, tone things down. And if the characters lack suitable powers, then you give them something that fits the characters.

Example, in my big Naruto-fic i use characters borrowed from Kimi ni Todoke, Nana, Angelic Layer, School Rumble, Bleach, City Hunter, Rosario to Vampire, Ranma and Nanoha, and most of those totally lack suitable powers, but just taking their usual style and Naruto-ise it works very well. I think Mizore from RtV and Gin from Bleach were the only ones i had to turn down in power to have her fit where i wanted.
While i´m turning up the power for some from Venus vs Virus to come in as opposition.

But none of them are just like where i picked the originals, it´s more like borrowing the concept of the character for me, as long as you´re not trying to do an actual direct crossover.

There are boys, its just that at the middle school and high school divisions at least are split along gender lines.

It's essentially an all-girls school and and all-boys school sharing the same (very large) campus.
