Naruto rewrite? (Sorry I don't have a title yet)

So Naruto for all it's popularity and interesting cast seems to have a lot of missed opportunities and horrible plot resolutions. So I've been making a list of cretin plot points and so on that I thought would make more sense or be more interesting as apposed to the canon story. Of course, this isn't just some rewrite of Naruto despite the title. I also want to add a lot of characters who were really interesting but sidelined in the manga for one reason or another.

Oh and just so you know, this will be mostly based on the anime since it has far more development into the characters then the manga has. And since the anime is still ongoing for a little while I'm mostly waiting for it to end and for the 'Last' to come out before I marathon everything and start writing. Also, I'm not sure if I'll make reference to the Kakashi Light Novel that will be coming out next year. I guess it depends on how good it is or how much it makes sense. Lastly, I might make reference to some of the Naruto games since some of it has extra development for some of the characters. For Instance, Shisui has a whole lot more to his story in the fighting game then he ever did in the anime or manga.

Anyway, I know this introduction isn't that great so I'll just get straight to the point

Plot points that would change
-Tailed beasts are generals during the war.
-Naruto Talk no Jutsu doesn't always work having him be forced to kill certain bad guys
-Jiraiya is Naruto's godfather/guardian. He takes care of him for the first 3-5 years of his life. Leaves him in the village and comes around once in a blue moon just to check up on him.
-People actually stay dead after the pain arc
-Kakashi doesn't die during the pain arc
-Sakura is on team 8 and Hinata is on team 7
-No child of the prophecy shit
-All of Team 7 helps kill Donzo and he's much MUCH harder to take down then in canon
-Have Yamato in part 1
-Karin would be less annoying, and also have screen time from part one
-Make "ninja Jesus vs MUH DARKNESS" a few orders of magnitude less obnoxious
-Kakashi gets enough power-ups to be still relevant
-Naruhina is steadily developed through the series; Hinata's confession isn't forgotten for hundreds of chapters
-Dead people stay dead or they can become undead thanks to ninja necromancy; no mass res allowed
-Ninja stay ninja; we have a series about super saiyans already
-Broken monsters like Madara can get on the one-man-army level, not one-man-mountains-remover
-Sasuke isn't treated like some sort of edgy celebrity; treason is a fucking treason
-Talk no jutsu heavily nerfed
-No Kaguya
-Orochimaru doesn't die like a bitch and has a major role in the manga till the end
-A bit more focus on strategy and politics
-Much more focus on tactics in the last part of manga
-Sharingan does not have every power author needs at the moment
-Hashirama isn't a super special snowflake

Some of these I'm willing to rework and/or remove completely depending on the suggestions.

Tobirama (What can I say, I have a fetish for this guy. I know he's dead and it's not likely I can resurrect him without resorting to some stupid bullshit but any ideas would be nice)

Ideas I could use suggestions on
-How to and where to put these characters into the story. I need a reason for them to be there. I seem to have a hardest with with the tailed best in particular since we barely know anything about them before they get killed.
-If there are anymore characters you can think of that got unfairly cast aside and have ides for them to reappear please tell me.
-Any ides on how develop some of these pairings. Shino and Fuu seem to be the hardest ones on the list to make work.
-Any other plot points that you think needed reworking from canon please let me know.

While that may look good because of "surface similarities", that´s not the same as being a good idea. Not saying it´s a bad idea, just don´t go the route of "oh buglady/boy we mucho in love instantly yes".

Seen that in two fics and it was utterly pathetic.

Handled well in another fic it worked excellently.

Sakura x Ino (not sure about this one)

Probably not, at least not as an exclusive pairing since in canon they never gave even a slightest hint of being into each other or being les at all.

Kakashi x Yamato

Seriously? Bad BAD idea. And most of all, WHY? Don´t go there, because there be dragons and thou art crunchy and tastes good with ketchup.

Unless what you write is meant as a pairingfic, don´t go overboard on trying to show off pairings. and especially not "weird" pairings. Sakura and Ino are at least friends enough that it might be pushed without looking ridiculous, but Kakashi/Yamato is just a big "huh, say WHAT?", complete character redesign that doesn´t make sense at all.

Do NOT force gay/lesbian relations unless you have a damn good reason and plot for it, i don´t know how many fics i´ve seen ruined by author fiat just to glue two characters together that are really NOT suitable for it. With "conventional" relations, it is at least not as absurd and can be overlooked, but twisting the personalities to get to a "unconventional" relationship, that´s when it starts looking bad.

There´s also always the option of having unstated relations, where you can let readers assume what they want. Harder to write well, but probably the best solution if you want to use questionable pairings.

-Any other plot points that you think needed reworking from canon please let me know.

Any and all female characters keep switching wildly between useless damsel in distress to as capable as plot (rarely) demands and then useless again?
Sakura is a perfect showcase, she is stated/shown as a natural with genjutsu, but noone ever teaches her anything of the kind(nor does she ever figure "hey maybe i should try to learn myself!"), she has "booststrength" which is never there unless it´s for something unimportant(and if the situation is important, she is suddenly weak as a newborn kitten), she has exceptional chakra control, something that allows a number of potential "powers", and almost none is developed.

Are you sure you want to touch that issue? Not saying it´s a bad idea, but none of the canon story is valid after that. And why just that long? IF you´re going with this, IF you can have Jiraya do the job at all, then he SHOULD do it from beginning to the end, otherwise it´s going to look like author fiat to remove him again.

Are you sure you don´t want to reshuffle teams completely if you´re going to make ANY changes at all?
Still, of course it is better to have a "genjutsu prodigy" with someone who can actually teach her genjutsu.

And that reminds me, make sure those idiot "teachers" actually teach something. Canon is pathetic in that regard.

She is in the exams so that´s an easy and very logical change. In the main fic i´m doing, i have her get severely blasted by Kin in the preliminaries with Sasuke definitely taking notice.

-Kakashi gets enough power-ups to be still relevant

Just give him a reason not to be so frickin lazy, and make him train regularly instead of just when he feels like it once in forever and he should be able to improve without issue.
Suggest you do this for Kurenai as well, as she is yet another of the "ladies" that is kept artificially weak most of the time.

If they want more survivors so desperately(and are not stupid to the nth degree) they would have made sure that at least some babies or small children are not killed.

And that is a plot change you can use if you want to add a reason for not giving him a blank check all the time.

Yay! Just as an aside, i found it funny when this kliche was used to justify the sharingan as being a contract with demons.

Totally agree. Any kind of bloodline stuff is RARE, but as explained in canon, it simply cannot be unique.

In my story i add a pair of Senjuu cousins(afaik, it´s never said that the Senjuu is going extinct as a clan, just that the clan no longer has any active ninjas around), one of which will be getting the "fun stuff".

Yeah, but thats what always bothered me about their relationship. Sakura wouldn't have any self esteem if it weren't for Ino and yet after their reconciliation during the exams, they barely even talk to each other.

Ino in the beginning was incredibly important to Sakura’s development and yet she was sidelined like she meant nothing. Quite frankly, the two of them had much more chemistry in their short flashback then Sakura had with any of the other character in the whole manga (except for Naruto I guess but they were on the same team so it was only natural.)

Of course, that doesn't mean Sakura’s going to immediately fall in love with Ino. Sakura will still be all about the Sasuc for quite a long time (possibly until the Donzo killing incident) before she finally realizes that he’s the worst possible person she could end up with. I also have some scenes outlined to bring Sakura and Ino closer together over the course of the story, such as Sakura comforting Ino after her father dies and so on.

Having watched Yamatos back story and most of his filler arcs with Kakashi they seem to have great chemistry with one another. Reading just the manga I would understand how a relationship between them would come off as weird but they hang out A LOT in the anime continuity. Also, since I’ll be making him a prominent character starting from part one, their development together would be steady and make sense.

As for Kakashi, as much as he enjoys reading those straight porn novels he’s rarely ever seen in the company woman let alone showing any interest in one. He always came off as they type of guy who could go either way as long as he really cared for that person and he could trust them implicitly.

That being said, I personally believe that Yamato’s admiration and respect for Kakashi seems quite similar to Hinata’s admiration for Naruto in some ways. It wouldn't be a stretch for his adoration for his sempi to turn into something more. Kakashi, like Naruto (but not nearly as dense) would probably have to think about it for a long LONG time. I was thinking of Yamato possibly confessing after the Pain arc and Kakashi having to really consider things between them before giving a relationship a shot.

I just might use this. It always surprised me that there were never any mention of Uchiha or Hyuuga defecting from their clan or just deciding to leave of their own free will because they thought the rules were bullshit. Although it's possible with Donzo being the asshole that he is, might find any lost Uchiha and kill them for their eyes.

For comparison, in the story i´m doing i went with:
Sasuke, Kiba, Shikamaru
Naruto, Sakura, Hinata
Ino, Shino, Chouji

However i also added another 2 teams, without mixing them all up(or will add as i haven´t posted that part yet).

Don´t forget though, if she sticks to her family style, that´s something she can´t get training for within the team unless you do something to take care of it. Family ONLY style.

Ino was implied to be "good enough" but not with much margin, while Sakura is stated as having superior control. I don´t know of any info saying Hinata has noteworthy degree of control or better.

In my own story i twisted that to essentially being farsighted ( with that and nearsightedness previously simply being lumped together as "weak eyes" instead of exploited ), you could use the same but change it to byakuugan nearsightedness, as that would help in seeing small details up close, while reduce effectiveness at distance.

Big difference between "nuke" or a superior warrior and a general. One destroys the enemy, the other LEADS and commands. With most of the jinchuuriki being more or less anti-social or crazy, that´s not a good recipe for leadership.

And no, it does not make sense either actually. Jinchuuriki tends to be more weapons of mass destruction than warriors, meaning that even minor collateral damage will be very bad for those using it if they try to have it work closely with them.
Hence why they tend to be used as WMDs, thrown into the middle of an enemy village or army rather than working directly with their own.

There´s also the issue that unless they´re 100% inbreeding, then it is simply guaranteed that there will be people from the clan, outside the clan. With Uchiha and Hyuuga both supposedly being fairly sizeable clans, even with heavy inbreeding, i would still expect at least one every few years to marry outside the clan or more or less leave.
Probably with some kind of seal limiting their eyes or its possibility to be inherited.
This i´m going to use in my own Naruto fic, although probably just a sigle person who left because she "apparently" lacked the Sharingan completely and hated the bigotry.

Oh yeah, that certainly needs to be fixed, even if there´s more "offscreen". Still, that does not equate a romantic relationship.
Still, Ino/Sakura at least i can imagine happen even if it needs a catalyst factor for it to happen realistically.

Another of the "ladies are only important(and strong) when the situation isn´t" kliche that infests the series so badly. Compounded for Ino due to her far too specialised skills that in reality would make her a really bad ninja.
I say sure, go ahead and let her out to play more seriously, but if you´re pairing up, make sure it works well. Ino and Sakura works excellently as close friends as well so making them a couple isn´t needed to give Ino more screentime.

As of the recent episodes featuring Hinabi, It seems implied that Hinata may have been holding back against her sister and deep down didn't have the conviction to be head of the family anyway. Those two together caused her to look weak in front of Hiashi. Not to mention that she can already see incredibly far in canon since she witnessed Naruto's heart stop beating. That being said, in the anime Hinata already does a little bit of chakra healing and to do that maneuver using her chakra to create a shield, it looks like that would take a considerable amount of chakra control.

I was using the term ‘hang out’ loosely but you can’t have a relationship (any kind of relationship) if you don’t ‘hang around’ with someone for a good amount of time and quite frankly, Kakashi only ‘hangs out’ with other guys. He may not be the type to make his relationship very public but it’s crazy to think that if he DID have a relationship that she wouldn't have shown up by now.

There is literally a filler episode where Kakashi asks Guy “If I’m ever in trouble will you come and rescue me?”

We all know that the guys are just friends but the mental jump to gay subtext is more like taking a step 5 inches in front of you. In fact, a lot of episodes with the two of them could easily be construed as gay or at the vary least more than simple friendship.
