Lycanthropy's Cure

For submitting and talking about story ideas, individual scenes that need doctoring, outlines, or other detail work that isn't quite ready for the C&C thread.

Idea submissions must be at least five paragraphs long, and include plot points, summaries of which characters are involved, and, for fanfiction, how it differs from canon. Both original and fanfiction ideas welcome. Though original works should have more development. Replying posts must give actual commentary, no "GREAT IDEA" or "THIS SUCKS".

Lycanthropy's Cure

Okay, first off this is a minimal idea that is up for adoption. I have no current interest in developing it. That being said, I'll try to flesh things out a bit. That doesn't mean someone else couldn't take the core idea and do something else with it.

It had all gone wrong. Remus Lupin sat in his old house drinking yet another glass of whiskey. He could not afford Odgen's, and he doubted he would be able to afford whiskey soon either. He had been through several bottles already, but the danged werewolf metabolism refused to let him die of alcohol poisoning, even when he really deserved it.

Sure they had caught the little rodent. Sure Sirius was going to go free, but he had in his mindless state infected sweet little Hermione Granger. He would haver killed himself already, if it would have done any good, but no, she had forgiven him and then said if he was so eager to do something, then why not help to find an actual cure? There was no cure for his condition! He had looked! By Merlin, he had looked, and now he was supposed to cure lycanthropy. It was impossible.

It took James and Sirius months to stumble upon the tidbit of information that being in an animagus form protected one from a werewolf's infection, and that was half by luck. It wasn't as if Hermione was an animagus after all. Wait a second. Sure she tested positive for the infection, but she had not transformed yet. It was only two days since the event. That wasn't enough time! Wait, if Albus can get a couple time turners and then himself, Minerva, and Hermione used them well past what was safe, there might, just might be.

He had no idea if it would work. It had never been tried before. It may yet fail, but if it worked and she could transform into a animagus form before the next full moon, would that be enough? He had no idea. He reached and stumbled before reaching again for his wand to cast a sobering charm. He then cast a patronus charm to Albus asking him to gather Minerva. He hoped they would support this crazy plan, since it was the only one they had. At worst, if he could get Hermione a time turner then she would have more time to remain human, and that in itself was something. Actually that presented another possibility. Was it possible to weaken the disease if you somehow avoided full moons? Could a time turner that hops forward in time even be built? Could the influence of the moon be shielded?

Actually now that he thought of it, could someone on a broom fly in such a way that they stayed in daylight for those days? How did the moon cause the transformation when you were inside a room anyway? Did some part of its light penetrate even Hogwarts?

At any rate, this was not meant to be a complete prologue. If any part of this is useful, feel free to use it....

p.s. Another idea for dealing with lycanthropy might be a Gold Digger's crossover...
