It's not really theft, but it is uncanny. It's freaking hilarious how often they've been deliberately invoked, just to get a reaction from Doomers.
And, naturally, they made an appearance in the movie Doom.
EDIT: And I recently learned, the Blaster sound from StarWars? It started out as a recording of high-tension wire being struck. A few layers of filters changed that to what we have today.
