Makoto it says 100% from having beaten each level once without even finding the keyhole exits. Well as long as you finish the entire Star Road along the way.

Except for the roads leading to Bowser's back door, half of the doors in his castle and a secret area in Donut Land, I believe I've gotten just about everything. It's the former that's going to be challenging, I believe.

Are Tubular and the others not counted towards 100%?

Sadly its not a certainty. There are many cartridges that were released where it doesn't. And the only way to check is to either play it through or do a data dump of the cart and check the cartridge bios title for the revision number.

As far as I recall, the international versions of SMW show that you've completed everything with a star and "99" in a thinner font (or graphic tile). That's what I was referring to when I used "100%." (Vaguely remember the Tubular issue, though...)
(Edit: Oops, make that 96. And, apparently, the US version is the only one to use the star - the European version just colors the text cyan: http://tcrf.net/Super_Mario_World/Version_Differences)

(...pulled out my SNES, but excavating my non-import cartridges from my closet will be a challenge (crammed WAY too much stuff in there... :P).)
Still alive, but failing miserably at dodging Real Life.

Wasn't there this secret area in Donut Land that allowed you to grab a few powerups (plus Yoshi), and that was it? That's what I heard at Gamefaqs, at any rate.

Donut Ghost House. Fly up and out the top left corner of the first screen of the house and you can find the second way out to reveal the secret. This is the first time I ever heard of someone not knowing it.

I hadn't heard of it until recently. I was watching someone play through this hack that someone had made; they'd changed all the levels, but left the overworld map intact. I'd seen a marker above the ghost house and started wondering about it, and eventually I checked on Gamefaqs and had my thoughts confirmed.

Thanks for cluing me in. I'll check things out later.

Just to note. I only pointed out how to find the way to the back door. Intentionally not saying more about it. Because I haven't played that part in so long I can't remember exactly how it goes after flying up there. Maybe tomorrow I'll delete a game on the cart and play that again.

Actually, if you'll permit me, here's my own discovery on the matter.

I couldn't remember if there was a door or a key.
