Top Gear

Postby Crescent Pulsar R » Thu Jun 16, 2011 9:46 am

Anyone who knows me well enough knows that I have absolutely no real interest in automobiles. None.

...

...So why am I making a post about Top Gear, as if I might like it? Well... That's because I do.

For some reason.

Well, I know I find it amusing. And, actually, the Ariel Atom caught my interest. Just not real interest. I swear there's a difference.

I guess I'm just a sucker for blokes who goof around and play pranks on one another. You?

Haha...I like his reporting on cars...except when he does not have all the facts. For example when ford redid the mustang in 2004, he did a compare test thinking he had a v-8 car when he actually had a 4 liter v-6 car. But it was fun to watch him flog the red pony against a real race horse...:P

(you should see what he and his crew put a mid 80's Toyota HiLux pick up thru:)...)

(Was that the one that ultimately ended up on a building that got demolished, or was that a Ford?)

That was the Hilux. Magically, they still got it to start after the building went down. Which explains why years later the new version is what May chose to drive up nearly to the mouth of an active volcano. Coincidentally, the very same volcano in Iceland that would shortly after explode and disrupt air traffic for a while.

Bzzzt, wrong, but thank you for playing.

1. Eyjafjallajökull did not explode. St Helens did.
2. The Gearheads drove to the nearby Fimmvörðuháls (Five Cairn Pass).

Talking of cars and nuts... There is a very dormant shield volcano named Skjaldbreiður in W-Iceland. Six-and-a-bit years ago, a different gearhead drove a stock Porsche 911 Turbo 4x4 to its summit.

The Hilux that went up the Volcano was one of the ones that they drove to the North Pole.

I'm personally fond of their regular overseas specials. I almost ruptured something the first time I watched the US special and the South American special was worth it to see James threaten Jeremy with a machete... twice.

Heh. Popular indeed. They have even been to Mid-Childa.

Been occasionally trying to imagine a US kind of Top Gear. Best I came up with is lots of chrome, lots of EPA, lots of gosh-wow and lots of big boobies. Dullville, compared to the Brits.

Aside: Mum is completely unenthused by cars, but she likes Top Gear.

I think there's an American version of Top Gear, now. I haven't watched it since the little I heard about it by someone who lives here made be too uninterested to bother with it. I'm just going to stick with the original show. Waiting for the next season to start...

Show your Mum this one and watch her expressions then...:P

We actually have a couple...(lots and lots actually)...of different car shows. The Smoking Tire being one of them. But there is something to be said about British pluck with the cast and crew of Top Gear...;)
