The thing is though Obama is using mostly FDR's playbook. I believe that just like in his administration the socialist nature of the policies are stifling recovery. Those policies are what changed a depression into "The Great Depression"

Ironic though, "No energy" Obama's energy policies as part of the Green push and in line with Agenda 21 from the UN is new compared with the FDR situation and in a way that is what Obama is buying us through actions like have happened with Solyndra(however its spelled)

Depression 2008/9. Its a line for Blackberries.

Nothing is going to convince me that the US is becoming poor, or that life is harder now than it was. Not going to happen.

You have any idea how many people on food stamps have fancy phones? It's rediculous. If they have the money for the fancy phone, why the bloody hell am I paying for their slurpees with my tax dollars. I don't think a cell phone line is inditive of anything considering how many people don't have their priorities strait.

Can't speak for the US, but as to Europe... Is it a coincidence I've seen something on National Geographic, stating something about Apocalypse, the ride of Hitler?

Specially since that hints at a depression in the 1930's which helped him rise to power, and eventually plunge the workd in WWII. I was eerily reminded of what is happening in Europe regarding depression, the centralisation of power and whatnot at the moment.

America is #1, so obviously it will seek world conquest with World War 3 first.

And then, one day, the ruler of some aquatic nation will demand that we tear down the wall across our Southern border.

I wouldn't be so jockular about that. Did you hear about the Nike shoe riot in Florida? We are just a few more loostenings of morality and ethics away from Wiamar here. People haven't been taught ethics, morality or even critical thinking in schools for almost 30 years and its ready to bite the entire nation in the arse. Raise an Anti-Freedom (Meaning they don't even know what Freedom really means) generation and this is what you get.

Dont judge until you know their story.

The IPhone, Android ect are not apart of any Cell Phone deal going on with Food Stamps. The phone given out for those programs are the cheap basic cell phones.

I'll just say: one, cell phones aren't created equal, and that goes for their prices; two, in this day and age cell phones are very convenient, and whether you're poor or homeless (or both) they're bound to be useful; and three, one and two can easily make cell phones a high priority, as opposed to whatever was affordable and very helpful for people back in the Great Depression.

Thus I conclude that the amount of people owning or purchasing cell phones is not indicative of how well people are doing. It makes no sense to compare how we're doing here and now to another time or place, because the living standards and conditions are different due to technology, modernization and urbanization. There's simply too much in the way of convenience for it not to mitigate the effects of a bad economy, and thus make things appear better off than any given example from the past.

I'd argue that, if inflation is an indicator for how well we're doing, then things could be worse but we're still worse off than in the past and so far there doesn't seem to be any sign of the inflation stopping or reversing.
