Okay, fly me an ocean!

I ordered something from England, and the maximum projected arrival date is one and a half months. Which is two days from now.
So, I was wondering... Why does it take so freakin' long? I know it doesn't take an airplane a month to cross the Atlantic.
(It's particularly annoying because what I'm waiting for is the first graphic novel in the series, so I'm left being taunted by the presence of all of the other ones that I can't read until it arrives. >_< )

lol. Just download it from the internet if you can't wait. Since you've paid for the original it shouldn't be a problem.

Because it gives them a reason to look for other things while they're at it. <_<;

Some small companies only do their international shipping on certain days of the month, especially if they don't get a lot of international orders. There are tax and tariff reasons for this is some cases. They may also have a distribution network that requires the package go through several intermediary stops before it is separated into the various orders for a given area and shipped out. Another problem that sometimes arises is that import offices will sometimes pick random shipments to hold and inspect. This is one of the biggest delays common to international orders.
It is also possible that they shipped it by sea, which takes significantly more time than air mail at a smaller price.

Will I be able to tell? If it traveled by boat, would I be able to smell the sea on the package? (Don't cross the senses!?)

It is long enough for ocean shipping but I find it unlikely to be sent that way. And even by ocean the main reason it would take more than 5 weeks is because of time things take to get through customs before delivery can be finished.

If I can help it, I'm not ordering international, again. Not for any reason! Actually, I thought I ordered from the states, since the initial order had come from the company in England, which said they no longer stocked what I ordered. At least, I thought I ordered from the company based in the US the second time... ;/

Are you really sure you want to swear off all international orders? Wouldn't that mean nothing from Japan? :S
I think maybe you should just swear off the Atlantic instead.

If a company ever says a shipment will take more than 6 weeks that means they most likely don't keep it in stock. And more often than not they have to wait for shipment from their production end before they can send it out.

Well, Japan, yeah... Although I've only ever ordered two things from there before. But I could wait for that sort of thing, since they weren't in English. XD

I ordered something sent from the UK and it never came. What especially sucks is that it was a rare CD and there's no other copies (except for $100).
And now I have another discs which has been almost a month since I ordered, though it was from US. I have to almost wonder...

I suppose it's possible for the wrong people to get what you order and they decide to keep it. I know of two times in the past few years where we've ended up with someone else's stuff (other than standard envelope mail).
