"show spoilers" problem

Postby Drawde » Wed Jul 22, 2009 3:25 pm

The problem? it doesn't work for me. I click on it, and it simply goes to the top of the page, and nothing else. how can I fix this?
Unless I say otherwise, if I'm discussing Ranma canon, I'm talking about the MANGA.

IE 8. And also experiencing it.

However... before anyone gets any idea of knocking IE 8, I am also experiencing it in Opera 9.64...

I won't check the dreadful FireFox.

Works for me, in Firefox (so there :P). Are you sure you don't have scripts/Javascript disabled in some way, either with a script blocker or with the browser security settings?

Spoiler tags are not having any problems with IE6 or my Seamonkey. I'm guessing as suggested its likely to be some security feature keeping them from working.

It is possible in IE, though more likely it is the Yahoo Toolbar.

However, unless it is set by default in Opera, there should be nothing blocking them. I keep that browser as clean as possible due to my wanting it specifically for instances when IE does not work on a problem site. I have no toolbars (Yahoo or Google or otherwise), or addins other than those installed by Opera itself, and Adobe Flash/Shockwave.

Just tested it on my sister's XP tower, with base installs for IE8, Safari and Chrome. The spoiler tag worked normally in all three of them.

The system on which I had installed Opera is down, so I can't test it unless I install it somewhere else.

Well... Currently a bit limited on time, but in IE8 it is not Yahoo toolbar, not compatibility mode (turning it on, off, or disabled made no difference), not accellerators (internal or 3rd party), not suggested sites, not copernic toolbar, not smartscreen filter, and lowering my secuity level temporarily did not fix it.

Note also, XP, Vista, and RC7 each have a different version of IE8, I'm on XP.

Just tested on Vista64 (new system) with IE8 and Firefox... no problems in IE8, but it did do the top-of-page bit in Firefox - only because I hadn't told NoScript to whitelist fukufics.com yet (and hence, it was blocking the scripts). Once I fixed that, it too handled the spoilers properly. :)

Maybe if we knew how the spoiler script works, we'd know what's blocking it for some. It's probably done in Javascript.

Edit: Forgot we do have an XP laptop with Opera and IE7 installed... and it did work properly on both of those, too.

I have found the culprit of the broken spoilers.

It is not IE...

It is not Opera...

It is not Java or Javascript...

It is not a toolbar or a popup blocker.

It is... the site PHP alternate theme... which I have my profile set to.

If I do not log in, or log in as guest, or log in and change my preference back to the default theme. Then spoilers work.

The instant I switch to the other theme... it goes broke again.

I refuse to switch... I'll deal with broken spoilers rather than go back to that theme. The simple truth of the matter is the default theme IMHO has far more problems visually than I wish to deal with.

Hmm... well, since there have reportedly been issues with the other themes in the past (not saying they're bad, mind you), maybe we should have "switch to the default theme and see if the problem goes away" as one of the first troubleshooting suggestions - for most problems with the board aside from the database errors and disappearing posts, anyway. ^_^;
