Ok, not exactly the best name for this but...
Did any one else cach the reference to DB in the cheerleading fight? One of the boys in the stands says the name of one the cheerleader's attacks is a reference to Dragon Ball. Ranma then asks who's manga this is.
I just thought that was funny that Ranma may read DB on ocasion and wanted to find out if any one else got that..

Hmmm do you have a link or whatnot to the exact page? I don't think I caught it. Unless it's the anime, in which case is it possible to ref me a screenshot? *grins* Yeah I'm unreasonably lazy like that.

Draconis, do you mean this page?

The golden cloud could be a reference to Dragon Ball, but since the early story of Dragon Ball was largely based on Journey to the West, this could actually be a reference to that. I wouldn't know, as I've never read it.

No but within a few pages...
Its 2 pages back and a verbal referance by a student. The attack is the "nyoibo boton crash" that the boy coments on. He literaly says "Whoa! A Dragon Ball referance!"

There is also a Nyoibo in Dragon Ball, but as I said, it is not necessarily a Dragon Ball reference because the early part of Dragon Ball was heavily derived from other sources.

If you're talking about the attack with the extending baton, that and the "golden cloud" of pom-poms are references to the same source as Dragon Ball, not necessarily to DB itself. The manga scans
http://ranmahentai.ranma.ws/RanmaManga/ ... 1-172.html
contain no dialog referencing DB.
DB, this story arc in Ranma, and many other other anime and manga stories are referencing the traditional Chinese folk tale, Journey to the West. This tale features as one of its characters the Monkey King, Sun Wukong (The Japanese pronounce the kanji that make up his name as Son Goku) and two other fighters accompanying a Buddhist monk on a journey to find some precious Buddhist manuscripts and return with them to China. The extending staff (in Journey to the West, it can also become many other tools, such as an axe) and the golden cloud he can ride upon are items associated with the Monkey King.

Confine it to the void... I am going to have to scan....
I just started buying Ranma at Books-a-million and the version they have there has a literal "Hey, thats from DB!" comment. I will try to get that scaned in and show you, and I knew the origin already. I thought the attacks were from Journey to the West befor I saw that blip.
