Well, in terms of describing whole cultures, such generalizations can be dangerous things to make, often times obscuring the truth more than revealing it. With that caveat in mind, everything I've heard indicates that (if a generalization
is to be made) it's the reverse that would be at least closer to the truth, with Japanese culture tending to place a much
greater importance on humility and self-deprecation.
