Ranma had many reasons for what he did in the Contrary Jewel story, but wanting Shampoo around I don't was one of them.

What would you say are the main reasons?

There seemed to me to be disturbing similarities to the reason Ranma gave Ryoga the bread. This is why Ranma retreated rather then just kick Shampoo's ass. I also don't know anyone who would not try to find out why someone is angery at you. Ranma was also treating it sort of like a duel.

If Ranma really wanted Shampoo he would not have had trouble saying I love you to her.

It also seems to me Ranma does not take being disliked well.

How often does Ranma get free food?

Seems to me that both Ukyo or Shampoo offer it when he comes by their restaurants.

So your line of reasoning is: We don't see Ranma pay. So he must not?

How could he get rid of the girls without them trying to kill him after wards?

I suggested drugging spiking them with a love potion and then somehow getting them to look at Happosai before personally. You get them off your case and you make Happi happy. Unfortunately I have my doubts as to whether or not it would be effective.

And then he has a lot more people trying to kill him for such an evil act.

But on a serious note otherwise no, I do agree that their's no easy way to get them off his back.

I think Ranma just tries to "keep the peace" while keeping an eye out for a way out of the problems forced on him. He had to realize what would happen if he actually tried to marry any of the girls.

If they are trying to kill him, he has not gotten rid of them if they are trying to kill him.

It isn't Ranma they will target, it will be Akane, Genma, Soun and probably the rest Tendo girls. Actually Nabiki has done a favor to everyone by selling invitations to wedding, considering the reaction at the attempt, if wedding had gone through result would have been a bloodbath.

If what little I know about Japanese customs is correct,a couple who complete the ceremony (which Ranma and Akane eventually did) are supposed to be eternally in love.

She is obssessed with honor,and genuinely loves her son.If Ranma genuinely wanted to get out of the Tendo engagement,she could probably figure out a honorable way of doing so.

She is obsessed with honour to the point that she walks around with a sword to cleanse the potential dishonour caused by his son by killing him.Instead of being helpful she would be forcing him to go through whatever hardship for the sake of honour.
