Wo da arien

Postby Atlan » Thu Aug 24, 2006 3:48 am

In the Manga (and anime) Shampoo calls Ranma her arien. If memory serves, she only does this before she returns to China and gets cursed. Afterwards, she never says it again.
I could be wrong, but it's irrlevent to my question.
My question is: Is the word Arien gender specefic? And does it actually mean married, or just engaged?
The Banana, the Atheist's Nightmare:

God made it with a non-slip surface, a color coded system so we know when to eat it, and an easy open tab at the top of the banana. It's just the right shape for a mouth and is easy to digest!!

The word is "airen". It means "spouse", and is not gender-specific. It can mean either husband or wife.
It can also be a term of affection between married individuals, which is how Shampoo uses it -- it's like the word "sweetheart" in that case.

One could also probably read it as Beloved. The hanzi are simply love and person.

*grins* True. But if you wanted to go for beloved, transliteral-ly, then you'd go with Qing Ai De... which is like Dearest, or Darling. *grins* Okay I'm not gonna continue this, lest it goes off topic. Needless to say, Ai Ren. Is pretty synonymous with lover, or beloved, or sweetheart...in other words it's a term of endearment. *shrugs*
