blind fighting

Would you consider shingan (minds eye, heart of eyes) blind fighting. Shingan is the peak of consciousness and awareness. The user can sense their environment (the presence, position and motion of others, etc.), and could tell when the slightest changes occur (a footstep, an increase in heartbeat, atmospheric changes, temperature changes, etc). They also wake up from being unconscious without being groggy, could not get vertigo or be easily disoriented, and often aren’t even subject to psychic mental distortion (no Madness Inducing or the like). It is possible their mind could be dominated, but they would know it was happening. I know of two characters that have achieved this Shuu from Fist of the North Star and Akira from Samurai Deeper Kyo.

Blind fighting probably could be considered a style in and of itself when you consider the various different levels there are to it. For instance the most basic example of blind fighting is training the heightened senses that you gain from becoming blind (touch, taste, hearing, smell, ect) to extraordinary levels. Think of Usui the Blind Swordsman from Rurouni Kenshin fror example.

The 6th sense or danger sense is the instinctive ability know when something is about to happen, and react accordingly to prevent some kind of harm. Like how certain animals can sense when a predator is near. Ranma's is so good; he can dodge attacks in his sleep. Some blind fighters rely solely on this to fight. With further training the fighter is able to sense when someone else is fighting, doing badly in a fight, or about to die, by 'feeling' their ki. Think of Galatea from Claymore.

Mastering blind fighting means developing the 7th sense or Echolocation. The visual ability of humans and other animals is the result of the complex interaction of light, eyes and brain. We are able to see because light from an object can move through space and reach our eyes. Once light reaches our eyes, signals are sent to our brain, and our brain deciphers the information in order to detect the appearance, location and movement of the objects we are sighting at. The whole process, as complex as it is, would not be possible if it were not for the presence of light. Without light, there would be no sight. The 7th sense works by substituting light for sonic vibrations. One with this ability can discern distance by analyzing how long it takes for the sound to echo back to him (and discern shapes as the sound passes over surfaces). The user could also use the vibrations of movement (his own or the movements of others) in order to see his environment. The images produced with this ability are in black and white, often making it difficult to distinguish between day and night with this ability. This ability can be increased as well. The hermetic principle of vibration states that everything is in motion; everything vibrates; nothing is at rest giving the appearance of solidarity the upper level of the seventh sense uses this to perceive the world (think of neo from matrix when he was blinded) which is probably pretty close to shingan.

These aspects of blind fighting however are trained from the ground up. Shuu however was already a master of Nanto Hakuroken; which means he can fight on equal terms with hokuto shin ken. A style that literally removes the limits of the human body. Akira was trained by demon eyes kyo a man who killed 1000 people at once. At the time kyo only knew two technique of his fighting style and he hadn’t even perfected them yet. Though he was incapable of unlocking his full potential he was still strong enough to be considered a Shiseiten. Akira blinded himself for that final push. Blind fighting is like losing a limb. It is said that when someone loses a limb they can still feel it. Yet shingan is like regaining that lost limb connecting yourself with the world around you. Which is probably why it’s called heart of eyes. The heart pumps blood all over the body unifying all it’s various systems to into a complex whole. Which is exactly what Akira’s shingan does with the world around him.

But I digress this is just to get my point across but the reason I asked this question was because Shuu and Akira already had god-live level senses through their training. So it appears that you have to have a certain awareness of the world to achieve shingan. If you have been blind for a long time you won’t be able to have that level of awareness so can you really consider shingan blind fighting.
