About Yuuki Ringo's job/profession...

Yuuki Ringo (Yuuki Rito's mother, from To Love-Ru), is a fashion designer who also produces models. I looked up what I could about what exactly fashion designers do, but I'm not exactly sure how she could be working as one. I mean, could she be selling her designs to a label or business (or whatever), have her own label (and probably her own business), or work for a label/business? In either case, or another case, what would give her the freedom, opportunity and resources to also produce models? I know designers need models to fit their clothes, but it sounds more like she's creating professional models.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm a hermit, and have no fashion sense, so this sort of thing is way beyond my realm of understanding. <_<;

I'm not a specialist, but there are freelance fashion designers as well as fashion designers who only wotrk for one label. Generally the fashion designers don't produce models, but sometims they request certain models to model their collection.
