If Akane had worn the Reversal Jewel upside down...

I had an idea for a oneshot recently, and I decided to come here to see if folks could givem e some advice: if, during the Reversal Jewel story, Mousse had put said brooch on Akane upside down (thus strengthening hatred by converting love), what would have happened?

My own thoughts were that she would have gone to the Nekohanten alright, but to vent her new fury on Ranma, screaming at him how much she hates him- does anyone else think that this is what would have happened?

If yes, how would Ranma have reacted? Would this have pushed him into Shampoo's arms (especially if she and/or Cologne tried to come to Ranma's defence during Akane's ranting)? Would he have finally decided to break things off with Akane and/or the Tendos in general?

Speaking of which, how would Soun & Genma react upon hearing how Akane publically proclaimed her deepest, uttermost, undying hatred and despisal of Ranma?

Any comments welcomed; I do have my own rough ideas for the scenario (I intend to write it, of course I do), I just wanted to see if anyone had their own opinions, thoughts or suggestions on what might happen in this scenario.

Just an amusing idea: if the jewel converts love into hatred, would it also convert anger into calmness?

"Raging Akane" is so cliche, by now, that it might be more interesting to have Akane calmly, politely (sic), and dispassionately dismantle Ranma, instead of raging.

You know, I'm sure you've heard it, the insincere "I hate to say, but ..." followed by the most vile, nasty verbal backstabbing. Character assassination at it's worst, all delivered in a primo imitation of Kasumi.

Now wouldn't *that* set Ranma back on his ass.

Hmm... I don't think the Reversal Jewel would work that way (Akane is basically in the same seat as Shampoo was earlier in the story), but that would *definately* have an even worse impact on Ranma's heart than it would if she was screaming at him. Because, well, she screams at him a lot, but for her to calmly and cold-heartedly cut him to shreds emotionally by telling him he's a freak, a monster, her worst nightmare and the thing she despises most in all the world... many thanks for the suggestion!

As another idea, what if she put it on sideways? We know it strengthens a person's feelings when worn the right way, and turns love into anger when worn upside down, but what if it was on sideways?

Perhaps tilted to the left, it could be pspinler's idea of turning rage into icy calmness.

Tilted to the right, it could turn the slightest hint of an emotion into a flood of it- the wearer would cry like Soun at the hint of sadness, go into an Akane-in-an-unusually-Akane-bashing-fic rage at the slightest irritation, turn into Happosai at the mildest attraction to another.

Interesting ideas Atlan, I might want to explore those another time. But, for now, I really need peoples insight in regards my original question- anyone have anything to comment?

So, does no one have any opinions/insight to offer on my question(s)?

If Akane were truly that furious with Ranma, she wouldn't go to the Nekohanten, she'd go to Nodoka and denounce and defame Ranma to her, then sit back and enjoy the fun as his mother dismantles him. If she just goes to the Nekohanten, she'll be fighting Shampoo and possibly Cologne. While she'd never admit it, she knows that's a no-win for her and her fighting 'that jerk' and 'his hussy' would just feed Ranma's ego. Akane's smart enough not to take that tack.

Turning love to hate doesn't mean Akane becomes a shrieking jade, she wants what's worst for him. Destroying him in his mother's eyes and then in public is the single most hateful thing she can do.

Besides, if she goes to the Nekohanten, that means Mousse's plan actually worked, and plans rarely work.

Slight problem with that; Akane has no idea where Nodoka lives at this point in the series and Nodoka left before the whole Reversal Jewel incident began. So how would she find her? All she knows is her name and her appearance, nothing else.

Also, given that Mousse was aiming for Akane to love Ranma so much under the jewel's effect that she would go and prevent Ranma getting married to Shampoo, I'd say causing her to instead drive him into Shampoo's arms would be a pretty spectacular failure.

Anyway, I suppose I should have been a bit clearer about what sort of info I was after:

Firstly, what sort of things is Akane likely to say slash bring up during her "Declaration of Hatred"?

Secondly, how will the various other characters react to her words? Not just Ranma himself (though he is the most important), but Soun Tendo & Genma Saotome- hell, what about Shampoo and Cologne?

Just a question, but if I remember correctly, the reversal jewel is suppose to reveal ones true emotions weather it be right side up or upside down, right? Or perhaps if you love someone intensely and the jewel is upside down you just hate them with the same intensity. It's been a long time since I saw that OVA so, I can't really remember.

No, the Reversal Jewel turns love into hatred if worn upside down, and 'strengthens love' (presumably by converting hatred into love) if worn right side up. I think you must have gotten confused with the fact that Cologne, apparently, says that Akane has admitted her true feelings after she shows up wearing it in the manga version.

Which I personally consider to be a mistranslation- Akane's feelings of love were strengthened by the jewel, so in their own way they were just as fake as the strength she gained under the Super Soba. That it's proof she has some romantic interest in him, that I buy and consider to be true, but the statement that Akane's claims about her feelings while under its effects are exactly what she feels? I doubt it as being any more valid than Ranma's professions of love for Shampoo were under the Red Thread, or for Cologne after swallowing the Instant Love Pill.
