I know there was a topic about it once, but I'm having trouble finding it, so I'm commiting a sin and asking the question again.

How long does it take to travel from Azabu to Nerima?

Which part of Nerima? It's a pretty big chunk of real estate (the largest or second largest of the 23 special wards I think) and I don't think Furinkan-cho's location within the ward is ever actually specified.

I'm not sure of the distance, but I think a little info on the geography would help a little.

Nakano, Shinjuku, and Shibuya are sandwiched between Minato Ward and Nerima Ward

Choosing a subway station at random in Minato and Nerima, the distance is roughly 36 km, travel time is about 1 hour and 15 minutes, and the trip costs around 590 yen.

I used the Japanese Train route finder to get that info. If you use a map of the subway system or Tokyo to narrow down which subway stations you want to use, more precise info is possible.

Really useful map. It looks like the Hinatta Appartments should be in Tama just based on commented on landmarks. Talk about long ways for Ranma to get malleted if he lands in either area.

Thank you all very much. The travel time was giving me trouble while writing the next chapter of Twin Trouble.

I remember on the old board there were some detailed threads about this, including Google Earth bookmarks of real locations and possible fictional locations....a shame that's all gone.

But 36km? Huh. Of course, in the US depending on how close to a highway one is, that could easily take easily under a half hour by car...

Tera try that same drive between 4 and 6 PM arround the south end of New York City. What does that do to your time estimate using a car?

Or trying to get anywhere near Chicago around the same time.

Tokyo is built almost completely around the rail and subway systems anyway, and it has been since the turn of the 20th century; buses and taxis exist primarily to get people to and from the major stations. Highways are not nearly as useful or extensively used as they are here in the good ol' US of A.

That's ... really random there.

If you use the Nerima station on the Seibu Ikebukuro line as the "center" of Nerima, and the Azabu-Juuban station on the Namboku/Oedo line junction as the center of A-J, the crow's flies distance is approximately 11.5 km and the subway ride takes about 34 minutes - which includes about 11 local stops and a transfer.

Here's a map of Western Tokyo with a scale indicator. Note that if you use the physical center of Nerima as your measuring point to Azabu-Juuban, the crow's flies distance is approx. 14.3 km (8.8 miles).

One important thing to note for fanfics: the real-life Azabu-Juuban station wasn't completed until the year 2000, so any fic not using the senshi-verse (which has a Juuban station) which is set before that date would usually use the station at Roppongi as the nearest stop.
