Hey, so I was kicking an idea around in my head for a fanfic and came across a stumbling block. Anyone have any evidence for ranma being ok with or against theft? I know fannon has him hate it but i realized i dont think i've seen that anywhere in the manga itself. Only theft incidents i really remember was him trying to steal kuno's wishing sword, instant spring packets, and waterproof soap; so at the moment its looking like he's ok with theft. Were there any other references either way before i go just off that?

He also steals fruits from hospital hardens... On the other hand, I don't see the hospital growing the fruit trees for other purposes that a purely aestetic ones... So I'd say he's Ok with taking things which are "nobody's" or are competed for. (Remember that Saotomes are poor as church mouses?)
Outright theft - I'd say no.

Considering that the amazons were taunting him with the packets and the phoenix pill arc I think we should put thoes examples aside. but other things like the Wishing sword, Ranma tried more to get the sword, but i would have to rate it self defence, Kuno having a weapon that powerful is dangerous, sure Ranma had other reasons but it can still classify as, in a way self defense
(Ranma is self centered so for these things I can see him justifing a reason for his actions)
Food as shown repeatedly in the Manga seems to be open season for him. It has gotten him in trouble more then once, and Shampoo is a good example, there was also the hot springs, footprint guy. This I blame entirely on Genma who instilled the eat anything you can get your hands on. based on that I don't think its stealing.
Now the waterproof soap arc... I can find no way to justify it, but that is not to say he did.
Given the above My perspective is that he wouldn't steal under most situations, however, he is able to cross that line easily. Food being one such weakness, anything that would affect the curse is the same. But anything that is not one or the other I can not see him stealing unless he had good reason, someone is hurt, etc...

I think when it comes to valuables and possessions clearly owned by someone his morals are to not take them.

It might help if you tell why you are asking this. For small things or stuff he needed to survive you bet Ranma would steal it. For larger more important things no I don't think so Ranma is shown a few times going out of his way to help others so I don't think he would

Way I see it Ranma has no problems with stealing things. Ranma has attempted to steal stuff fairly often like the water proof soap, tried to steal the Shi Shi Hadoken scroll, wishing sword, etc.. He stole food from Ryoga when Ryoga was turned into a kid, stole food from hot spring guy, stole the bowl of food that had the dragon whisker, ect... Look at who raised him someone who is perfectly willing to steal from his own wife, from his own ancestors, and invented two schools of martial arts based on theft. The reason Ranma doesn't generally steal stuff is because he doesn't really care about most material things but he sees theft as being a perfectly valid way of getting things he wants. I seriously doubt Ranma would steal from poor people or bully people though.

He seems to have a fairly laid back attitude about stealing. Maybe not quite as much as Genma, and he will not do so if he thinks he will seriously hurt someone I think, but he will justify it (as others mentioned, Kuno being too dangerous with the wish sword or the Amazons taunting him with the Instant Spring Cure).
It seems that the two reasons he will steal are either for food or for a cure to his curse, but like mentioned by antimatterenergy I doubt he would beat anyone up, at least weak people, to get what he wants (but, if he was desperate enough you never know).

Perhaps the best way to say it is that Ranma has never (in the manga) deliberated, worried, or felt guilty about theft. That's not to say he likes to steal, but when he does he dosent angst over it.
