Ranma in the Dungeon Master Dungeon.

First of all DM is an old game, came out in 1987. It was huge in it's day but that was over twenty years ago. So unless you've got a long memory and were around then, or are into classic Dungeon Crawl games this might not be too familiar. The plot of the game had a near godlike being known as the Grey Lord sending his disciple Theron away from his underground laboratory before the Grey Lord tried to mess with the 'Power Gem' which was a powerful artifact that had been instrumental in the creation of life on their world. To do this the Grey Lord used his Firestaff another uber powerful doohickey but not in the same league as the gem. It all went wrong and the Grey Lord ended up split into two separate beings, Lord Chaos and Librasulus or Lord Order. While they were being split Lord Chaos grabbed the Firestaff and Librasulus went for the Power Gem. When the dust settled Lord Chaos was trapped in the laboratory but had a real body while Librasulus was locked out and was reduced to a powerful but formless spirit. Lord Chaos sets about trying to recover the 'Power Gem' so he can escape turning the laboratory into a monster filled dungeon while he’s at it and Librasulus starts recruiting adventurers and would-be hero's sending them in to try and recover the Firestaff which he can then use to get in and destroy Chaos.

This goes on for a number of years with the people Librasulus sent in not accomplishing much except for getting killed and hung as portraits by Lord Chaos's as trophy on the walls of his Hall of Champions. Then Theron who was also effected by the splitting in two effect but not as badly manages to pull himself back together, but is still a spirit. Librasulus sends him in to revive some of the Champions and forge them into a lean mean fighting machine that can kick Lord Chaos's butt, starting the game.

Ok enough background.

Include plot points. The main plot of course is Ranma needing to fight her way down to the lowest levels of the dungeon to get the Firestaff and recover the Power Gem, using it to take on the bosses and to accomplish her own goals, getting home and sorting the curse. Also there are the rest of the cursed residents from Nerima: Ryoga, Mousse, Shampoo and Genma that because their cursed forms aren't that useful in a fight Librasulus left lost in limbo when he ported in Ranma. And if Ranma wants to rescue them she'll have to study and practice hard to master the spells outlined in the back of the notebook.

Summaries of which characters are involved. First up is Ranma of course taken from an early stage in the Ranma1/2 story main idea at the moment would be just after the 'weakness moxibustion' arc so Ranma has most of his signature special moves. Then there’s a selection of Champions from the game. There is one obviously Japanese character an apprentice Fighter and novice Priest named Iaido Ruyito Chiburi who will of course be very interested in the buxom young lady who freed him much to Ranma's disgust. Ranma will be able to recruit four from the Hall of Champions once he gets around to reading the instructions left for him by Lord Librasulus. My picks at this early stage are novice a Ninja and apprentice Priest girl by the name of Wu Tse Son Of Heaven, Sonja She Devil one of the toughest fighter there and Gothmog the Journeyman Wizard, although consider Gothmog looks like a pretty nasty shadow creature thing Ranma might pick one of the other apprentice Wizard's, Syra Child Of Nature or Tiggy Tamal. Later in the story Ranma will be able to retrieve her friends from limbo Ryoga, Mousse, Shampoo and Genma.

Ranma with the divergent point for the Ranma time line a few weeks after the 'weakness moxibustion' arc when Lord Librasulus manifested himself in the Ranmaverse and for Dungeon Master the story is set before Theron, Lord Greys Disciple and the main pov character for the game, manages to pull himself back together. So it’s set during the time when Librasulus was still throwing random adventures into the Dungeon in the hopes that they could beat Lord Chaos.

Ranma wakes up in the Hall of Champions feeling beaten and abused, not a stitch of clothing, her memory scrambled but with scattered images of a man, a foreigner, claiming to be a wizard by the name of Librasulus who'd shown up in Nerima offering a cure for Jusenkyo curses, but the vague images are all mixed up with memories of a wild fight with Mousse, Ryoga and Happosai somewhere he didn't recognise. But none of it makes a great deal of sense and after a minute trying to sort things out Ranma shakes it off in favour of looking around. Near by on the stone floor where she'd woken up is a backpack containing a pair of cheap shorts, a thin T-shirt, a water bottle, some food and note book like they sold in the stationary shop at Furinkan High School.

The first pages of the notebook reads like a evil overlords manifesto full of condescending and bombastic phrases like 'I Librasulus the Lord of Order' 'Graciously grant you the honor of serving ORDER! of serving LIBRASULUS!' 'You, my tool, will spare no effort in retrieving the FIRESTAFF and returning it to me.' 'Know that your life is of no consequence, only securing the Firestaff from Lord Chaos's evil is of any importance.' Ranma gets sick of it pretty quick and loses interest, deciding to go have a look around.

So Ranma explores the first level and finds the portraits. These are pretty gruesome things, if she touches them she experiences the person hung there's last moments and grisly death, so after the first one she stays well clear of them, after a bit more poking around she finds the stairs down. Out into the Dungeon proper where she finds some relatively weak monsters, Mummy's the traditional shambling bandage wrapped brawlers and Screamers these tree things that attack with screamed sonics. Not much of a challenge except that the silly things just do not quit! unless Ranma actually destroys them, something she is loath to do, they just will not stay down and continue doggedly following her and attacking every chance they get. After a few hairy situations brought on by her reluctances to kill bypassing monsters only to end up getting caught between large bands Ranma barricades herself in somewhere where she will not be bothered and reads the note book to find out what the *bleep* is going on.

After reading the notebook she'll head back to the Hall of Champions and recruit her team and take on the Dungeon for real.
