I've had this idea bouncing around in my skull for a while. It is a big enough project that I don't plan on starting it any time soon, but was curious what you guys would think of it. It is a Sailor Moon x Naruto crossover, though more of a thematic one than story wise. The basic idea is that after the Moon Kingdom collapsed, most of the survivors were combat mages. This, coupled with the amount of youma which escaped being trapped with the Dark Kingdom led to the preservation of more Moon Kingdom knowledge than in canon SM and leading to the formations of groups of highly trained soldiers that, over time, created the ninja villages. Usagi and the others are reborn into this time.
Usagi is one of many orphans left by the attack of the Kyuubi no Kitsune. Nothing is known of her real parents, but she has been adopted by a loving couple who have since had a child of their own. She is not a ninja, being too clumsy to get into the academy on a scholarship and her parents being too poor to pay for it, but she idolizes them and jumps at the chance to become a mahou kunoichi, Ninja Moon. She manages to go quite a while before her identity is discovered thanks to the genjutsu associated with her transformation that keeps people from recognizing her. Once recognized, the ninja of Konoha assume that she has some sort of strange Kekkei Genkai that makes her very effective at fighting the legendary monsters who have started attacking again after being gone so long that people thought they were myths, and she gets intensive ninja training, whether she likes it or not. A point I was thinking about including was one of her instructors realizing that her clumsiness comes from having instinctive reflexes that are attuned to an adult body that she never took enough conscious control of to adjust to the size of her actual body.
Luna and Artemis would be treated as being spirit animals like the toad and dog summons. Luna is especially useful in catching Tora, should I write up that particular mission, and both of them are surprised when they get treated like people once the ninjas know they can talk.
One of the big story differences is in the rainbow crystals and their hosts: the biijuu. When Serenity sealed the 9 great youma, she didn't have enough power left over to ensure they would stay sealed, so she sealed them into the strongest of the spirit beasts, the leaders of 9 of the spirit clans, like the giant frog, giant slug, and giant snake summoned by the Sannin. This had the side effect of slowly driving several of these beasts insane, as in the case of Shukaku and Kyuubi, and causing others like the three tailed turtle to try to find some out of the way place where nobody would bother them. As Usagi collects each crystal and heals the toxic mess left in the chakra of these beasts, they lose a great deal of power but become sane in the process. Shukaku is still an a-hole, but he is a sane a-hole.
The other scouts would be dealt with as I saw their personalities:
Minako would definitely be a ninja, with no particular specialization, being instead a good generalist. Once discovered, her affinity for metal justu(either fire and earth or lightning and earth, since this would affect what other elemental jutsu she would be likely to learn and use).
Ami would be a ninja who is currently studying to become a full medical ninja, with a personal specialization in genjutsu(especially once it is discovered that her shabon spray is a mix of water and genjutsu, creating a field that not even a Hyuuga can see through, but that she can selectively let those she chooses see through at will).
Rei would still be a mako, who gets conscripted to ninja-dom because of her extreme affinity for fire and because of what the cats say. She most resists joining the team of any of the members. Maybe I could have her treat this as an extension of her duties exorcising demons.
Makoto is a taijutsu specialist with an affinity for both lightning jutsu and wood jutsu. She would be the most enthusiastic about the chance for more fighting against monsters that are considered practically unkillable by standard ninja.
To write this properly would be a huge project. I'm wondering what you all think of the idea.
