Ranma: Identity Crisis

Postby toushin » Thu Oct 15, 2009 4:10 pm

this is my homage to Trugeta's Betrayal's Reward only it will be in the DC Universe, however i will be using the Identity Crisis story line from spider-man. for those of you who dont know During "Identity Crisis", Spider-Man was framed by Norman Osborn and the Trapster for murder of a small-time crook named Joey Z using "web fluid" around his neck. Osborn also provoked Spider-Man into attacking him on tape, leaving Spider-Man with a five-million-dollar reward posted for his capture and unable to even go out on patrols without the police or even normal people attempting to shoot him. Instead of his normal costumed identity, Peter Parker adopted four other costumes with different crime-fighting personae in order to stay under the radar, reasoning that the emergence of one new superhero with spider-like powers immediately after Spider-Man's disappearance would be too suspicious, but that the appearance of a few different superheroes would allow him fallback options if any one of the identities were exposed. With two identities the Hornet and Prodigy--posing as heroes while the other two--Dusk and Ricochet--pretended to be criminals, Peter was not only able to do good, but also gain a unique chance at getting in with the criminal underworld of the time. with ranma's skill i think he would be able to pull something like this off.

i will be going in the order of the comic

Ricochet

When Spider-Man was accused of murder during the Spider-Man: Identity Crisis storyline, he donned several different costumes to continue saving lives without anyone knowing it was him. One of the identities he adopted was that of Ricochet. Starting with a leather jacket with an R on it, his wife Mary Jane Watson-Parker created a costume and weapons to match it. This persona was similar to his Spider-Man persona, but even more jocular, and he relied primarily on his agility while posing as a criminal-for-hire. Using this identity he collaborated for a time with his old foe Delilah while searching for information about new villain the Black Tarantula, battling Roughouse and Bloodscream in her company (Although the final fight featured him using all four of his new identities to put them off-guard and decrease speculation that the new heroes were the same person). When he cleared his name, he abandoned the costume.
Although the hero called Black Marvel later gave Johnny Gallo a duplicate Ricochet costume, Spider-Man remained in possession of the original. It has not been seen since.

Powers and abilities

Ricochet has the mutant power of superhuman agility, enabling him to leap great distances. He has incredible reflexes and coordination, and when combined with his leaping powers, can seemingly bounce off walls (ricocheting, as it were). His mutant powers also give him a "Danger Sense", that functions much like Spider-Man's "Spider-Sense", allowing Ricochet to sense danger before it happens. Thanks to Hornet, Ricochet has special throwing discs which he stores on the sleeves of his jacket. These discs can bounce off walls and targets with incredible force. Later, Hornet gave Ricochet new discs that could explode on impact. Ricochet's super reflexes and coordination enable him to throw his discs with amazing speed and accuracy.

with the exception of the disk (which i think he can imulate with regular projectiles) ranma's initial skills in the anything goes can be used for ricochet.
Prodigy

an old-fashioned 'good guy' with superhuman strength and speed, able to leap from rooftop to rooftop, and using a bulletproof vest to appear even stronger; also included a fake nose to increase the difference between him and Peter due to part of his face being exposed; battled Jack O'Lantern and Conundrum using this disguise, and provided faked evidence that the Spider-Man who attacked Norman Osborn was an impostor to clear his name of assault

Powers and abilities

Prodigy's costume is mystically infused with power, giving him vast superhuman strength, speed, and stamina. He can leap incredible distances and when he jumps, it appears that he is flying. His golden costume is completely bulletproof, and can withstand most physical assaults. His cape functions as a hang glider, and enables him to glide on air currents.

this one will use the yamasenken but even with that ranma will need some help. unlike Trugeta i like cologne better then happosai so ranma will have better access to the amazon techniques. prodigy will obviously need the breaking point technique. when you add a more ki control techniques i think its plausible that ranma could develop technique that will give him limited immunity to bullets and the ability to ride air currents.

Hornet

When Spider-Man was accused of murder during the Spider-Man: Identity Crisis storyline, he donned several different costumes to continue saving lives without anyone knowing it was him. The Hornet costume was designed by Mary Jane Watson-Parker and the weapon gauntlets were designed by Spider-Man based on Ben Reilly's stinger darts. The cybernetically-controlled wing harness was designed by Hobie Brown, the Prowler, who never used it as it was too heavy to be worn by a person of normal strength. Spider-Man, however, was easily able to wear it.

He used it with great success for several days, becoming a popular hero with the media after his debut featured him thwarting the Looter's attempt to rob the Daily Bugle. However, during a battle, the Vulture realized that he was actually Spider-Man and exposed him. He abandoned the Hornet persona, and soon after cleared his name.

Although the hero called Black Marvel later gave Eddie McDonough a duplicate Hornet costume, Spider-Man remained in possession of the original, except for the flight harness which was returned to Hobie Brown. It has not been seen since.

Powers

In addition to his regular abilities, the Hornet costume gave Spider-Man the ability to fly and shoot fast-acting sedative stinger darts.
this would be later in the fic when ranma gains allies that could give him the equipment he needs to be the hornet. and sedatives will be replaced by pressure points.

Dusk

When Spider-Man was accused of murder during the Spider-Man: Identity Crisis storyline, he donned several different costumes to continue saving lives without anyone knowing it was him. One of the identities he adopted was that of Dusk. As Dusk, he pretended to be a mercenary with a quiet, serious personality, and teamed up with Trapster, who had in fact framed him for murder under Norman Osborn's orders by using a duplicate of Spider-Man's webbing to kill a small-time crook called Joey Z. After helping the Trapster escape an attack from the Shocker, Trapster and Dusk became regular allies, taking out some of Osborn's various criminal activities across the city. Although Dusk failed to record a confrontation between Trapster and Osborn where Osborn admitted his role in the murder, he was able to convince the Trapster that the best way to hurt Osborn now was to admit his role in framing Spider-Man for Joey Z's murder. When he cleared his name, he abandoned the costume.

Although the hero called Black Marvel later gave Cassie St. Commons a duplicate Dusk costume, Spider-Man remained in possession of the original. It has not been worn/seen since.

Powers and abilities

In addition to his regular abilities, the Dusk costume allowed Spider-Man to become virtually invisible in shadow, and glide short distances.
obviously this one will use the umisenken.

i am not as bleak as Trugeta so while genma, soun, and akane are still going to abandon him nabiki, kasumi, and nodoka will not, but they wont be able to actively help him. however shampoo and ukyo will play a big role in the fic.

please post your replys and tell me what you think even give me some of your ideas if you have any.

So wait, this will be a Ranma/DC crossover, with Ranma becoming multiple super hero (and possibly some super villain) identities while trying to clear his name for a murder? And you are drawing in Marvel elements by having his disguised identities be the ones from the Identity Crisis?

Ricochet:
Ranma uses his great agility, speed, and reflexes and danger sense to pretend to be a metahuman with such abilities, possibly using some form of projectiles that he bounces off stuff.

Prodigy:
Ranma learns the breaking point, and possibly a bullet-proof vest on top of that, and maybe a variant of the Iron Cloth technique on the clothes he wears in order to achieve a degree of super-toughness, and uses his ki enhanced strength and speed to pretend to be some sort of super-strong, super-fast, and super-tough super hero and his air-riding techniques he developed facing the likes of Saffron and Herb, along with ki enhanced jumps to pretend to pseudo-fly, and pull off a generic low-powered Superman type character. You also said something about the Yama-Sen-Ken, perhaps the voice techniques "Don't MOVE!", against super villains and minor criminals?

Hornet:
Not sure how Ranma might get the jet pack, possibly he could be friends with NukuNuku (both super heroes of a sort in the same district of Japan) and borrow a jet pack made for her by Dr. Natsume (although this might cause Hornet to be an onna-Ranma based heroine, since the jet pack might be fitted only for a female build, it could be a funny plot point). Stinger-darts could be a Ranma invention using some stolen paralysis drugs from Kodachi, or borrowed from the Amazons or something, on regular darts that Ranma could just throw. He could improve his flight techniques with the air-riding tricks also used with Prodigy.

Dusk:
A dark, stealthy costume and Umi-Sen-Ken type stealth skills, possibly some of the cloth tricks of the Umi-Sen-Ken as well, maybe even some ninja and assassin type tricks, pretending to be some sort of mystical ninja, Ranma might learn some stuff or copy some stuff from Konatsu to add to the identity. The non-spider-man Dusk was female, but there is no real reason for Ranma to use girl form for this identity I can think of, unlike the idea of having Hornet use a jet-pack fitted for NukuNuku, so Dusk could remain male, although Ranma might choose a female identity for it in order to use sexy kunoichi techniques and have an even number of male and female alternate identities or something. Dusk could be the most likely identity for Ranma to infiltrate the criminal community seeking to unravel how he was framed and get his name cleared. Since this is DC universe you are sending Ranma to, Dusk might be employed by the criminal community in plots against Batman, but secretly hold back and clue Batman in that she is actually infiltrating the criminal community for some purpose, and let him stop her without letting him catch her, causing him to investigate her in an attempt to figure out her motives, and possibly get on the trail to proving Ranma's innocence as well.

Some key notes Ranma might have to worry about with an organized Justice League is that they have an extremely powerful telepath in the League, the Martian Manhunter, not to mention super-man with X-ray vision, and all sorts of others who would see through Ranma's disguise, so if the League thinks he is guilty there could be trouble. On the other hand Superman is usually too polite to use his vision to unravel other super-heroes' identities, and the Martian Manhunter usually avoids just reading minds just because, and Ranma likely has some limited ability and training to fight telepathic type techniques given his ability to resist Happosai's ki hypnosis techniques.

Once Ranma is cleared of wrongdoing he is likely to draw some attention of the League for recruitment, especially after having successfully pulled off four different special identities, each with a different power-set and an in depth investigation to prove his innocence, which would mean he meets both power requirements and investigative skills they require from League members. They'd probably choose only one of his special identities, or help him form a new one with some combined abilities, jet-pack, paralysis darts, body-armor, stealth functions, etc. possibly designed by Dr. Natsume once Ranma's identity is cleared, maybe with some additional equipment Dr. Natsume would make for Ranma, such as a mini-computer with sensors that are comparable to NukuNuku's ear sensors and great recording and memory capabilities to help Ranma with investigations, and a Batman-esque utility belt worth of super-science gadgets. Ranma would likely form a team-up with NukuNuku, and possibly some other Japan based heroes, such as that Katana girl from DC, and maybe some other anime/manga characters who might fit well within the DC universe, like Pretty Sammy, Lum, and Mai the psychic girl. If Ranma is in male identity on such a team it could lead to further silliness with the fiancees as they suspect that Ranma has added to his 'harem' or that these girls are somehow competition for Ranma, possibly involving the fiancees attacking the super-heroines out of jealousy to get them to stay away from Ranma, and becoming minor-disguised super-villains, or donning super-heroine disguises themselves and trying to join the team and compete for Ranma's attentions that way. :P

Yeah, I think this idea has potential, go ahead and write, feel free to use some of my suggestions and thoughts, or not, as you please.

Identity Crisis is Marvel, not DC, at least the Arc that Toushin's describing is.

There's a canon technique that'll allow Ranma to glide on air Currents as Prodigy by the way. Herb Uses it in his fight with Ranma. it's how he "Glides".
